If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

Did they call the woman TRICIA??? I mean, I can cope with zaphod only having 1 visible head, and dupli-monsters, but they could AT LEAST get the names right... grumblegrumble
So do you think they'll change The Answer to a more palatable number?
***edit*** oh hell, I'll probably go see it anyway.... ***end edit***

As I recall Trillian's real name was Tricia McMillan (or MacMillan). Which is why Arther didn't recognize the name when he first heard it. But then what do I know? I'm just the guy who made a point of going to Marks and Spencer in London to buy his towell.smashinator wrote:Did they call the woman TRICIA??? On the plus side, I think that Sam Rockwell is a damn good choice to play Zaphod. He's been brilliant in just about everything I've seen him in and I can imagine him pulling off the whole "split brain different personality" thing they've done with Zaphod. I'm optomistic, but I'm also a tremendous fan of the book (I had a copie that I carried between two contenente, four states, and every posting I had in the Navy. It kept me, somewhat, sane).
Oh, here's a less choppy, though smaller, link to the trailer:

Speaking of well-traveled books, my personal "omnibus edition" of the first 4 books was funnier than the one version I'm reading now.
Seriously.
A friend loaned me his copy that has the "complete" versions of all 5 books. Jokes have been changed/made less funny/entirely omitted.
For example, the "Rory" award was for Most Gratuitious Use of the Word "Fuck" in a Screenplay in my original copy. Now it's for the word "Belgium" and there's a 3 paragraph "explanation" of the joke.
Also, at the Restaurant at the end of the universe, the MC told a bunch of "young republican dogs" that the end of the universe was all their fault. That bit was completely missing in my friend's copy.
Maybe I'm too attached to the copy I had, but I felt kinda ripped off.

I think it's safe to blame Douglas Adams for this. He's kind of the literary equivalent to George Lucas, forever tinkering and not leaving the work to stand on its own merits. Just be happy that you had the opportunity to enjoy the origional, un-re-edidited versions.
Cheers,
Ames.

Hm......hm........hm.......okay. I will actually try and follow the eternally best advice and don't panic (allthough I have the nagging suspicion, nay, the ceratin conviction that this sentence is a grammatical heresy). I will watch it. And if I find it's a total perversion of the books, I shall seek the aid of a hypnotist to forget it so that when I reread the sacred texts my own imagination shall not be pushed aside by the images created by the filmmakers.
