EVERYTHING IS MARKED UNREAD!!
First fix:
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that,
the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious
cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the
New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

You know GG, MJ challenged the perception that it's wrong for an adult male to sleep with children and look what it did for him! Hell.. he challenged the law! What a rebel!
Seriously though.. Fuck MJ.. who cares. I will never understand why people get so broken up when a celebrity dies.

I totally agree, I'm not defending the guy, I just posed a simple question that I thought would make people think.
Anybody over 35 that says they weren't standing in their living room trying to figure out to Moonwalk back in 85 is LYING!
What does MJ like best about twenty eight year olds?
Theres twenty of them.

Not true. I'm 41 and I
never liked MJ, never wanted to dance like him, couldn't stand to listen to his insipid music.
The 80s was a shitty time for commercial music, for the most part. My choices were Michael Jackson, Madonna, Wham, or Cyndi Lauper on the pop station or knuckle-dragging shitty metal bands like The Scorpions, Quiet Riot, or the watered-down 80s Van Halen and ZZ Top (with that fucking Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer all over it) on the rock station. It was about this time that I stopped listening to the radio altogether and stuck with my Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin records until I finally discovered punk rock a few months later.
I also never owned parachute pants or a Members Only jacket. No plastic clothing for me in the 80s.

1985 was Black Flag, Minor Threat et al, for me. A different kind of pop culture, I guess it could be said. Certainly no Michael Jackson. But my younger brother, yeah, he was a sucker for that crap.
I came home once, and he had Michael Jackson blasting in the apartment,(Mom wasn't home from work yet) and was standing on the sink in the bathroom, bent over, head between knees inspecting his ass in the mirror. I don't know why.
So every time there is something to do with Michael Jackson, that's what pops into my head. Seriously.

If you set up a fictional universe then you can argue that certain things are, or are not, logical and consistent within that universe. Of course the fact you might be able to show something is indeed logical and consistent in a fictional world says nothing about reality.

Fuck all the eulogies. Do you think the world will morn the loss of O.J. Simpson? Charles Manson? Bernie Madoff? Yeah, he made some catchy music, but does that buy him forgiveness for the atrocities he committed?
Nope. No sadness here. The train has been off the tracks for a long fucking time, I was tired of watching it skid along the side of the rails.

Finally got away from it in the 90's.

I was a little kid. I think Thriller came out in 1982, and I was born in '74. I *loved* that album, and I love Off the Wall and his earlier Motown stuff. Yeah, sure, I grew up to dislike him and the corporate music industry, I grew to disassociate my musical tastes from MTV and the like. However, I do think that MJ influenced me a lot when I was 8.
The funny thing is that, just today, I remembered that somewhere I have an MJ doll. The last time I saw it--maybe 5 years ago in my mom's garage--it was totally naked except for the silver glove and the red zipper jacket. How fucking appropriate.

Neither contributed much to my life. Feeling old here, but confident and proud that Thriller was never in my music collection. I scored with my first album purchase.... London Calling.
Ditto to that. My favorite Angel was Cheryl Ladd anyhow. Can't remember my first album purchase...was it Iggy Pop?

Hahahaha, my first album purchase was the Star Wars soundtrack when I was about 10 years old. My second album purchase was Pink Floyd's The Wall. Before either of those, though, I got records handed down to me, so my first LP was Cosmo's Factory... and my first record was a Beatles 45, "Please Please Me".
My first CD purchase was... Pink Floyd's The Wall. My second was Black Sabbath's Master of Reality.
Sorry, threadjack down memory lane...
