As far as what James David Manning says in that vid, it's about time somone, ANYONE speaks the tryth about that subject. PC-ism in this country is WAY OUT OF HAND. It is too bad we cannot treat each other with basic respect and dignity. The minefield of political correctness has made this difficult, and I think it just makes hate masquerade in different clothes. As far as politically correct? I just gave up identifying people by anything other than name.

Injustice? Yes, it has happened. The remedy? I don't know how to erase scars of the past.

If having an open mind and a respectful nature would sell in the press, we might have a chance, but I fear we have become a nation of tattletales and scalawags... Look at our leadership.

Coincidentally, just last night I watched a new (to me) movie called Crash, which deals with racism and other social issues. I found it to pretty be fairly gripping. Recommended.

Okay, I see what you're saying, but all you covered was name-calling... Doesn't really have all that much to do with the topic of which he was speaking. The name-calling is just a symptom of a greater problem. The preacher was talking about trying to eliminate the attitude and mis-perceptions that PC-ism brings about..

The very divisiveness and false separations created by such words as African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American, etc... only goes to create false differences. One is, simply, an American. All of those other things imply a connection with culture and custom that is, quite frankly, usually lost after the third generation.
Similarly on applications that ask for my race I prefer to check the box for "Other" then write in "Human."
Racial divisions are fostered in this country. Let's focus on one of the worst culprits and do away with the hyphen.

That's a great idea Ames. I think I'll do that next time I have to fill one of those out.

Personally, I always find it interesting when people of mixed races denies one race.

I've always wondered if, in the VERY far future, all races will just become so diluted with other races that everyone will sort of just be no race at all, just HUMAN.

Opposite impact for me. I'm totally down with hyphens. While we are all "Americans", there is no shortage of subcultures with very different cultural traditions, etc. Likewise, I have no problem with anybody who shares their allegiance with another land. Besides, it isn't a matter of what people call themselves, it is what they are perceived to be. During WWII, I don't think anybody went around asking Americans of Japanese descent to choose whether or not they identified with the hyphen . . . . they were different, so they went to camps.

Teddy said that shit at a time when industrialized nation states where throwing their young men into the firing lines over a lot of stupid bullshit; and only sentimental patriotism and naivitee kept men running into the guns.

I sat behind a guy at a traffic light the other day with a bumper sticker that said, "WHY THE HELL SHOULD I HAVE TO PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH!?!?!" Guess why, Fucktard . . . . because people can speak whatever the fuck they want in this country and businesses have a right to speak to them however the hell they want! I realize than English has been the predominant language of this land for 10,000 years and all, but . . . oh wait a minute . . . Washington only been a state for 120 years. Nevermind. We took big chunks of this country by war and by purchase that were speaking Spanish and French (not to mention the hundreds of indigenous tongues), before and after they got obsorbed into our country. Huge numbers of people through the midwest spoke German until WWI when Teddy made that speach, and tons of people started changing their names and forcing their kids to speak English.

So now, some unarticulate preacher says, GO KNOCK CHIPS OFF THEIR SHOULDERS and speak the truth? I'm all for personal responsibility and shit, but I think blaming the high rates of crime among blacks on blacks, makes as much sense as blaming it on whites. If problems were that simple, we could just fix them.

It just occurred to me, that I am probably being about as articulate as this preacher that annoyed me. Teddy Roosevelt, I am not.

Well, you do ride a KZ.

Every time I hear someone go off on a tangent about how they have to press 1 for English, how immigrants should dang well learn English before they move here, how [insert nationality here] is taking over our country, and soon no one will speak English, et.c, etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum, it just makes me want to smile at them and say:

"Mikola, mitakuye oyasin."

For what it's worth, I have never, ever had to press 1 for English. I've gotten menus with a little blurb in Spanish saying the caller should press some number to hear the menu in Spanish, but never to press any button for English.

And this was when I lived in Texas.

Just so we're all clear on this... America does not have an official language any more than it has an official religion.
