Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

And now I go hungry.

Post by WeAintFoundShit » Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:16 pm

I just scavenged, hustled, and conjured some cash. Enough to put some food in my mouth and gas in my car for a minute and pay my water and power bill.
I called in a loan, got some money for fixing bikes, and refinanced one of my monthly bills.

I took my cash and put it in the bank so nothing would come through and bounce.
Only something already had, which caused a couple of other things to follow suit. Thanks to overdraft fees, all of the money I just put in is gone. I literally have no cash. I'm down to the little tub of change in my dresser, and my bank account is still empty.

I fucking hate banks.
I've managed to avoid it for the most part up until now, but this month I've given them over $200 in overdraft fees. Now I can't pay my bills.
Or eat.

Damn, I've lived that before. Shopping at the cheap food store with 25 penny Ramen noodles and out of date hot dogs got me by for several months until things lined out. Late fees played greatly on that. Found out that most bills will work out if you call and tell them what's going on and they will have their money by X day. Around here they will usually drop the late fees, and you avoid the charges at the bank.
At least once you hit the bottom of the bank account it can only get better.

Want to go on a cheap date with me and Goose sometime? One nice day of riding for merely the cost of a tank of gas. You can sell your shoes or something to get the money. I can make sandwiches for lunch, and we could meet somewhere in the Santa Cruz Mtns. Fun?

A ride sounds neato, but it will likely be somewhere up north, coz I'm moving to Davis on Weds (somehow).

I've got cupcakes if you are hungry.

Bank of America was killing me with overdraft fees cause they took out money before they would allow deposits on a single day. Fuck 'em. I'm at a credit union now and they have been nothing but wonderful to me.

Best of luck to ya.

Yep. BofA blows ass.

I had a friend that worked there and she hooked me up with a free account. Anytime I'd get an overdraft fee, I'd call her up and she'd reverse it. Then one day she gets promoted and things were fine for awhile, then a few months later I started getting fucked with. Money mysteriously missing from my account and reappearing days later, etc. I used to deposit my paycheck every two weeks like clockwork. Then one day this c*#t wants to put a 3 day hold on it. I explained to her, then the branch manager that "I'd been depositing that same check every two weeks for 3 years and why the fuck does it all of a sudden need a 3 day hold on it?" She didn't have a legitimate reason, so I closed the account right there on the spot and told her loud enough for the entire bank to hear that "this is the worst customer service I've ever witnessed". That particular branch is closed now.

I've been with Washington Mutual (now Chase) ever since without even a hint of a problem.

Good luck with the move. Maybe we can ride Lake Berryessa or something if we can find a day that isn't too blazing hot. I could also probably convince Mike to come along as well, although I think he's leaving soon for his DPW job.

Not to hijack this thread or anything (and having nothing to do with the above statement), but man do I ever have a raging hangover this morning. Holy crap.

I start DPW before Mike does, but I'm not sure when (or if) he goes to country fair.

I've got between now and July 23rd to ride. Additionally, I've got a friend (aka the girl I'm gaga over) in town between the 18th and the 22nd, and she wants to go on a ride to some redwoods.

Back on topic... Yeah, I've got bank of america. Thus far, I've had no problems with them whatsoever. I've even had some great customer service with them. This bucket of shit, though... It's really screwing me.
I'll go in and talk to them tomorrow for sure.

Back off topic: Good luck with your hangover!

TCF has been doing the same thing to us. I think that over the last few months, they have probably claimed a quarter of my income in fees and overdrafts.

So, I put everything on a company pay-direct Chase debit card. It works like credit cards and debit cards used to: If you don't have enough money in your account to cover it, it declines the charge.

OH! How I LOVE that feature!

The way banks are working it now is to apply all charges before they even touch a deposit. They also apply the biggest charges first...that way if you have one charge out for $400 that you did on Wednesday, and four piss-ant $5 charges that you did the Monday before that, they will apply the $400 charge first, so that it will wipe out your funds and then they can charge you overdraft fees for the four piss-ant stuffages.

And, of course, these policies are definitely targeted towards poor people. After all, it is the poor people more likely to overdraw because they tend to live paycheck to paycheck more often.

Note: If you haven't done so before, you can call and ask them why, when yo had money in the bank that you deposited, that you were charged overdraft fees. They will then (generally) explain their charges-go-out-before-deposits-go-in policy, and then offer to refund the overdraft fees THAT ONE TIME, since you were not aware of the policy. This only works once, so save it for a good one.

Two months ago, the household ended up with nearly $1000 in overdrafts due to being $10.35 overdrawn.

You must remember, though, that if you rob a bank, 51% of bank robbers actually get caught. When a bank robs you, 100% of them get away with it.

Don't be part of that 51%.

Peace,
Caliann

I went to Bank of America today to see about those overdraft fees.
The manager looked up my account, and verified that I've only been overdrawn once in the past 4.5 years prior to this past month.
Then he fed my account number into a computer program that decides whether or not I'm deserving of a refund based on some unknown algorithm and set of standards that even he is not clued in on. The computer program said no, so I get none of my money back. The manager says that he has no discretion in the matter, and is locked to the will of the machine. I am S.O.L.
I would be willing to wager that I've done close to a quarter million dollars of business through that bank in the past 4.5 years. Close to $200k anyway.
I'm going to sniff out a credit union that I can join, and close down that account asap.
This is total bullshit.

I would threaten to take them to small claims court. BofA sucks. My wife has a BofA account and I hate it. I deal w/ BofA for big corporate loans for some of my customers and they suck royally on that side of the house too.

While I hate, I understand that a corp can stick it to the powerless consumer, but being shits to another big corp that's opening up a multi-million dollar revolving credit facility is just rank stupidity.
