I dunno, looking at it, with the sound and all, it all is so...tranquil...almost peaceful, zen-like.
What's going to happen is going to happen, we are but petals on the waters of the river of life...

Why was a camera running in the first place? Bizarre.

Maybe one of these special accident cameras. Half an hour of memory, or so, keeps writing over what it records, until there's an accident when it stops, so you have the accident not being written over and hence on ...shit, I hate it that you can no longer say "on film" or even "on tape". On what? On file? On disk? Doesn't sound right. On flash? On stick?

The best part was when I (and most likelly the engineers) saw the tanker car full of who knows what headed right for them, sparks and all. Holy crap. What if that was propane?

All freight trains now have real-time cameras onboard, and most have event recorders as well. Most cameras face forward, out the engineer's windshield, but some trains have rear facing cameras as well. The cameras document vehicle strikes at grade crossings, crew actions, track conditions that cause derailments, excessive speed or running signals, etc.

The sudden onset of heavy hail and the trees bending over 45 degrees in the background are a pretty strong indicator. If you full-screen it you can see all the crap flying through the air just before the train is blown off the tracks, starting several cars behind the engine.

From my friend Railroad Mike (who to his railroad friends is known as Motorcycle Mike):
HOLY SHIT!!! WOW!No good, glad its not me. It looks like the cars up front were empty as the locomotives were rolling after the cars went over and dynamited the brakes, you can hear the air dump right before the lead car tipped. Engineer failed to bail off the independent(locomotive brakes), and throttle up to keep ahead of the train. Apparently the Tank car was a load as it bounced along with the lead truck derailed and would probably have stayed upright but for the locomotives stopping in the way, the bridge didn't help much, and I wonder if it needs to be replaced(ouch!).Hell of a video, lucky the event recorder was on in the trailing unit to catch it all, I'll be watching for the FRA report on this one.Now check out the collision videos, they give me the willies.RR.

Does our new found buddy Railroad Mike have a website where they put these videos? I'd watch the shit out of train wrecks.

Oh mama. A site like that would distract me from my job of posting on this site. Not good.

Wasted? What kind of sissy talk is that? A half hour of watching train wrecks is not a waste.
It's educational at the very least and well, totally badass. Wasted... jeez, kids these days.

Oh, tell "Railroad Mike" to get his ass online here. We need him.

Haah! think I made it in!!
Sooo ya wanna know bout smashing trains do ya? well Ive never wrecked one but I have put em back on the rails afterwards. We dont wreck often but the video recorders are bringing some new perspectives that have opened my eyes, the video does little justice till you know the size and characterisics of these fine beasts. Its a little bit strange going from my 500lb superbike to a locomotive and vise versa, both designed for performance, both fun to work the shit out of, but different to say the least.
RR.

Yea fer sure! when I was learning to run trains I remember well what to do if your train goes into emergency brake on its own, Bail off the brakes and full throttle, press the PCS override and hang on till it grinds to a halt. The reason was to get away from this type of situation where the longer heaver portion of your train will carry momentum, not a problem if the train separates twords the back. the report said the engineer on this run didnt have a clue till he got hit, there's a few retards out there keeping the rest of us concerned.

yet another train crash....one sufficiently weird I thought I might tack it on here. Unfortunately un-embedable.
Don't be bored by the footage of the rescue workers...just wait and see.
