Hey, you HR types. Question about COBRA

I was wondering someone here might be familiar with COBRA? I was laid off on 7/1...I was told that I'd receive COBRA forms so that I could continue my medical coverage paid for by me.

OK, it's now the 23rd, and I have not seen any forms. I called last week, left a message with the office Admin for my old HR person to call me back. As of yesterday, I hadn't heard anything. I left another message, didn't hear anything back again. Called again this morning...waiting to hear back again.

This is really pissing me off. Will I lose my coverage if I can't get a payment in for COBRA? My benefits run out on the last day of July.

I've checked on a few things regarding COBRA. My former employer is supposed to send me a COBRA election notice within 14 days of termination.

I think you have 90 days or something like that before you lose it completely.

Show up at your former workplace with a shotgun or your SKS and ask to speak to someone in HR. I'm sure you'll get tons of attention.

I don't think that will be required.

The HR person who is with my old company was laid off too, today is her last day. Maybe she is going through short timers syndrome? Still, they shouldn't drop the ball on something like this.

She's emailed me, and cc'd the parent company HR person. I'm going to call, email, every day until I see the forms come in.

Thanks for the input BB, shot you a PM.

Actually, thanks to all for the input!

My form just came via email a few minutes ago. I guess I overreacted, but...I can't let my coverage lapse.
