Fucking clouds

I saw a few. I thought it was cool that they were going all different directions, I thought they'd run along the same path.

Huh.

I didn't see anything either, too damn cloudy.

Every year I get excited about this, and every year it's either cloudy, or hazy, or raining.
Leonid meteors, they are my Great Pumpkin.

edit- these were the Perseids, the other ones always let me down too. Damn solar system, keepin' me down.

Meteor showers radiate like spokes from a point in the sky (whatever constellation is applicable to the name, really). As Erf passes through the comet tail, we see it from that angle, pretty much looking right down the pipe, to an extent. That's why the look so random. This also depends on POV and "tangent", so to speak.

Damned clouds and East Coast light pollution kind of buggers up viewing here.

Yeah well, I didn't see shit either. Too many lights.

That's a really cool memory. I can only hope that Tasha has the same sort of happy remembrance of the time, a few years back, when she and I spent the night up in the mountains watching the meteor showers.

I heard this was going on and was happy due to the lack of clouds, then when the sun went down the clouds cam back... bummer...

Very similar memory here... My Dad came home from work and we floated around the pool in innertubes, listening to crickets and watching the show. I was about 13 at the time, and we had no idea about the Perseids. Just a random night in the pool. My science teacher at school explained the dealio, and every year it became a celebration of summer.
My dad reported from his farm of his viewing last night, mentioning the experience of 30 years ago. GOOD stuff! From my place too near the light pollution, and heavy cloud cover? Not too much to see.

I drove out of the city with a couple of friends of mine and we found a random person's 'yard' (I use that term loosely as it was about an acre of finely manicured grass, with no house in sight), laid down, and stared at the sky for hours. Twas a good night, even though I'm allergic to grass and my arm's all swollen (I forgot to take the allergy meds)
