Updating resume

Any tips on a good 2 page resume? Currently, mine is a 3 page chronological resume as follows:

1. Employment history/experience

2. Qualifications

3. Education/certifications

I'm going all the way back with my employment history, including non-IT related positions. Can some of it be dropped since the positions don't include my career in IT. The positions I'm referring too are all before I got into IT. Carpenter, etc.

You should tailor your resume for the specific job you are applying for. For instance, if you are applying for an IT position, your time as a fry-cook on Venus, though interesting to you, isn't really applicable to the IT position.
You may also want to keep only the last five years of work experience on your resume. Anything older, unless it directly pertains to the position you're applying for, isn't as relevant.

Good luck.

I would go back ten years, but in my field (construction) the technology becomes less irrelevant over time.
Try to pare it down to two pages no matter what.

Leave out the carpenter BS, make it two pages and staple a fifty dollar bill to it.

Try going for a skills based resume. Rather than headings by place of employment, come up with headings for the skills you are trying to sell.
