Obviously, Phillip Glennister is the one and only true Gene Hunt, but as it often happens, a great character is portrayed by different actors on different occasions.

It's the Gene Hunt that counts.

So, GHAM (Gene Hunt Appreciation Month) will run right up until christmas?

DCI Hunt. Because he's a demon that exists in the alternate head-realities of dying cops and cannot be killed. John Wayne died from filming "The Conqueror". Also, Gene'd bring his shooter into the cage while the duke would be all cowboy's honor and stuff.

So, it turns out that Gene Hunt is God, in a fashion, afterall

Wow.

The whole supernatural theme of the show had gone kinda quiet there for a while...I'm not sure whether to applaud or not.
On the one hand, a brilliant end to the saga of Gene Hunt, on the other hand...a bit reminiscent of various unnamed 1970s and 1980s comedies about the afterlife. Which, really, is kinda appropriate.

Now, the evident continuation would, of course, be the feature-film tragic story of PC Gene Hunt, from his joining the Manchester and Salford Police to his tragic death on coronation day.
BUT.
That, while certainly interesting, if done by the right bunch of writers, would be young, skinny, inexperienced, danger-to-himself Gene Hunt, not THIS guy:

Of whom I'd still like to see more.

I like period cop shows, where you get modern, sleek production values and great writing without all the forensic nonsense, the coppers just relying on "good old fashioned policework".
But Christopher Foyle and George Gently and their "Softly, Softly" approach are no match for Gene's "Z Cars", to borrow the comparison from the man himself.

Just what the Foock are you bloody poncey half-wits going on about now?

Dammit it's season three already? I finally found it on BBCAmerica again and things seemed out of sequence! Where's the fucking clown!!!!!
