An upsized version of my phone that would look really awkward while attempting to place a call?
At this point I'm pretty meh, although as per the norm, the industrial design is top notch.

Bleeding technology, the iPad.
Someone had to.
Considering what an iPhone costs without a contract, the price seems very good. I think it will be a hit.
I might have to get a job… naaah.

I want my phone to make calls, and serve as an alarm clock. Nothing else. (OK somtimes I use the Calc function)
I dont text, I dont browse the web on my phone. I just call people, and I rarely do that.
My computer, I want to compute....My 1 personal comp (laptop) works fine for my use. I've had it for 6years (not top of the line then), and I will use it untill it can no longer be fixed.
I see folks all the time with Blackberry things, and realize that althow some of them use them for some purposfull function, the vast majority just use them as toys/status symbols.
Just like floks on RR bikes that NEVER come remotely close to unlocking the bike's potential, and dont care to try.
But then again....I'm not the target audience

the only thing i could see the ipad being used for is a HTPC controller. Even then it would be really expensive, and not really focused fo rthat kinda thing.
I think its completely useless.
i got sucked into the iphone thing, and to be honest, its a crappy phone. it does cool things, but after a weeks time that is all old news. I like browsing the internets on my phone, but lots of phones do that. i just dont see a point for a giant iphone. and if you dropped that thing from a height of 2 inches onto anything else but a pillow, i'm sure it will shatter into a thousand pieces, much like my (3rd) iphone.

the trick with e-readers is no backlight. sony makes a pretty sweet one. It uses electronic ink and some strange magic.

I don't see a need for one of these in my life, but past experience with their products tells me that to handle one will be to want one.
I can picture this working very well in corporate and commercial settings, serving as a magic clipboard for all sorts of work interactions.
I can easily imagine a coffee shop full of these, since I was in a coffee shop the other day where I was nearly the only person not plugged into a laptop (I was looking out the window at my motorcycle visual entertainment solution).

Ditto.
I do have to text though (women like to text), even though I resisted it for a long time. It does come in handy though when you don't necessarily need (or want) to talk to someone.

The apple-maxi looks pretty awesome, actually, but I can think of way better things on which for me to spend $500.
In one breath I can rattle off $500 worth of moto parts that I'd enjoy far more.
Or, let's see: New Jacket. Oops, there goes my $500
Track day + track tires. Oops, there goes my $500 again.
Gabro Eprom+Fuel regulator+regulator gauges+dyno time. $500
Lots of better ways...

Love it. Think it's awesome. Would never buy one.
1) Safari on the ipod/phone/wang etc. blows. No Flash support. Still.
2) Would have no use for anything less than 128 GB. That still wouldn't hold my music alone.
3) I think Apple is playing the same "make people want to upgrade after a year for the bigger storage model" they usually do.
4) Music and movies. I'm sure they will play the same game of "can only have your music on one device" crap.
5) Lack of iSight. I hate iChat, but I use the video chat extensively; particularly for work, when my office was 1800 miles away.

…As for why such crash resistance was worth implementing, Serlet explained that, based on data from the Crash Reporter application built into Mac OS X — the thing that asks if you’d like to send crash data to Apple after a crash — the most frequent cause of crashes across all of Mac OS X are (or at least were, pre-Snow Leopard) “plugins”.
Serlet didn’t name any specific guilty plugins. Just “plugins”. But during the week at WWDC, I confirmed with several sources at Apple who are familiar with the aggregate Crash Reporter data, and they confirmed that “plugins” was a euphemism for “Flash”.

Daring Fireball
I have Flash blocked in Safari on my Mac with
ClickToFlash. Makes for a much more pleasant browsing experience, no more random lock ups or slowdowns as irritating ads steal processor cycles. As for Flash on the iPhone, I don't miss it.

I wanted the iPhone BAD! cause everyone had one, instead I got HTC cause I was locked in to the t-mobile contract with 3 lines which cost more to cancel than buy an unlocked i-phone.
First 2 HTC's were Windows OS and they were so-so but now I have G1 with Droid and all I can say is that i-phone can suck it!!!!
I think same thing will happen with the i-Pad, people with means will buy it, others will buy it beyond their means because someone at work has it and they MUST have one, than 128 gb version will be released, and 256 etc... eventually Google with come up with droid version and it will be better and cheaper.

I love my iPhone, and use it constantly, seldom for actual phone calls, though.
There are a couple apps, like Beatmaker, NoiseIO, and SketchBook that I think would be vastly improved by the larger touch interface, though in general I'm pretty disappointed in the functionality of the iPad.
First off, where are they getting the pricing breaks for flash memory upgrade increments?
100 bucks for a 16GB memory upgrade? Really? All other hardware aside, I can't believe that's the actual price break for a buyer like Apple, when you can buy the stand alone cards for 1/3 the cost at that memory size.
I'm really curious to see what the jailbreaking scene does to these devices, and therein lies my optimism. As it stands, this is a shiny, delightful, piece of fluff that could have been so much more.

I've been reviewing the stats because I'm a gadget freak. I'm unimpressed with the i-pad because it can't multitask, no flash support, no replaceable battery, and IF you want to use it to get onto the net you have to have an expensive AT&T plan. I've not heard much, yet, about Microsoft's slate, but I suspect that it will offer more options than the i-pad...and multitask too.
Edit: Also, there's no USB port on there. You either have to use the proprietary Apple hardware OR buy an adapter for your USB. This is the same kind of genius thinking that allowed the release of computers with no disk-drive. How well did THAT work out?

OK but they can do better. It seems like they are just slightly improving the technology they already have.
Come on Apple!!! Think outside the box!
I want on piece of technology that will change size. I want a full size laptop that, with the push of a button, will fold itself like a tiny transformer into something that is just small enough to fit into my back pocket.
I want it to have a keyboard, a phone, camera, i-pod storage, alarm clock, GPS and be red in color.
I do not want to pay a bazillion dollars for internet/ wifi/ text/ long distance/ regular phone use. I want to pay between 50- 80 for all services.
I will always love the feel of a book in my hand and I hate reading long text online.
Where is my i-transformer?
