homosexuality was a mental disorder as recently as the DSM II. I am amazed that such a vague description can be clinically diagnosed as a disorder.

Totally. Isn't that a lot of what sex is good for?
...and also in response to happiness, disgust, love, remorse, contempt, nervousness, exasperation, surprise, relief, optimism, lust.
Sex is like big fuzzy wrench for life. It has the ability to make bad things good and good things better. The aftermath however may be a whole different story.
