i hate texas because racism is so fucking prevalent down here that i get to be hated and talked down to in public because i look white. i stress the word "look".

but due to a small windfall, on wednesday i am going here.

and then i am going here.

and i am going to drink beer and lose myself in art museums and roman artifacts and forget about everything and everyone else for 6 days.

i just have to make it till wednesday.

We ALL need to take a step back
Realize that this country was made by thoes that were willing to work HARD, for NO immediate gain. And by thoes who had NO calim to the land.

The Mexicans have FAR MORE CLAIM to all the land from the Rio Grande to the Canadian border than ANY gringo.
Just remember that.

I suppose it remains such a ubiquitous problem because so many of us are insulated from it on a day to day basis. Fact of the matter, other than a few wannabee rednecks in Central Florida, there isn't much of a problem with racism. It's there, don't get me wrong, but having spent the last two weeks in the Florida panhandle adjoining the states of Alabama and Mississippi, it is barely on the radar by comparison. In this area it is shockingly clear, to be frank. The work we are doing on the coast, cleaning up the oil, is problably the best money the vast majority of our workforce will ever make in their lives. Young black men and women, as well as whites but prodominantly black, can make $10 to as much as $14/hr working twelve hour shifts seven days a week, Sundays are double time regardless. Do the math, they can bank more than $4k per month at that rate. Yet I have heard numerous references to black foreman as the "H.N.I.C." in order to politely omit the the nigger in the middle there. They are busting their asses out here and are still generations away from being anything more than dumb strongbacks and malcontents. Hell I would say it is the white workers by a long majority that complain about payday and working conditions on a regular basis. Its sad, so I feel for you Sunny for having to suffer the backlash, it taxes me daily as well. Fuck it, I'm done with it anyway.
