Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Top Gear Australia was greatly disappointing...not really all that bad, just bad in comparison with the show they desperately tried to copy.

Top Gear Russia I'd like to watch, unfortunately I don't think it would be much fun without understanding the words.

The presenters of Top Gear USA appear...just a bit young.
The great chemistry that is Top Gear is not just the idiots messing about with cars, it's middle-aged idiots behaving like teenagers with their cars.

Did the third guy not get the plaid shirt and jeans memo, or did he not have time to change after they dragged him out of bed?

Both thumbs down. Both big toes down, also.

Needs moar snarky. And british accent. And less plaid.

If I watch just a tiny clip from Top Gear, the original (as it should remain), even just a tiny clip, I encounter upturned edges of my mouth. Squints, maybe a giggle. This... whatever it is... did not make me smile in the least.

It's like a sequel to a movie that should not have EVER had a sequel made.

It seems that the three hosts suffer from Gaylon's disorder, a common affliction here in the midwest where people are tragically born without a personality.

To borrow a line from someone else here on the board -
"I can't wait to miss this".

the show may suck ass but that sure looked like a helluva lot of fun!

Tanner Foust (the youngest looking one) is a drifting champion and a rally star, had a decent show, can't remember what its called, but something about supercars, he is a better driver than TV host. The bearded guy was one of the NASCAR towel boys, comic relief without a sense of humor and the third guy I did not recognize, they seem to have fun but I suspect the show will suck. It takes a great personality(s) to pull it off. All three hosts of the original TG are great personalities on their own, unless the US show can find at least one (better two) co-hosts of that caliber US show will tank. They need Pauly Jr and Sr! Top Gear OCC style!

I did watch Top Gear Russia, some of the jokes were over my head, lots happened since I left, for one there are no more 3 hour lines at the groceries...

I thought Adam Carolla was in the running for co-host. Love him or hate him, he is a personality and WAY into cars.

My other vote would be comedian Alonzo Bodden, who hosted Speed's "101 Cars you must Drive" and won Last Comic Standing a couple years ago.

Patrick Bedard from Car and Driver would be cool too.

In other news, the latest season of the original series is available to torrent and has some pretty good episodes.

IIRC Adam Carolla was in the aborted first attempt at Top Gear USA. This is attempt #2 and it doesn't look particularly funny.

Maybe Brock Yates, Denis Leary and Christian Slater next time...

I think its just like the original Cannonball Run, its just so damn original, that any attempt to make a copy or sequel is just going to look retarded.

It should not look like Jackass With Cars. thats not the point.

I didn't exactly follow the development saga, but friends did. I recall the comments that they had a nice cast lined up for an American show about guys with cars in the Top Gear format, but scrapped it for a crap line-up with an American Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May character.

I dig a proven idea, but haven't bothered to catch any part of the warmed-over soup.

I wholehearted agree with Brock Yates.

Two other choices:

Dennis Leary would be good for the smart-ass cocky angle..

I hate to say it, but Leno would be great for the enthusiasm for all things Motor-Driven.

Aside from Leary, maybe Jason Lee.


Otherwise- This version is full of Fail.

Well, since my normal line in these situations has been used.(I'm glad it's memorable)
I hate the very concept of this, The UK version of Top Gear is fantastic, and I have no interest in cars. I don't understand why an American network won't just buy and show that one. They used to do it back in the day. 2 that spring to mind are The Prisoner and The Avengers. If those shows were on today we would have "The Prisoner US" and "The Avengers US" which would be really fucking lame. It's like watching a bad cover band that gets the lyrics wrong.
I hope this just disappears without a trace, never to see daylight again.

First episode aired last night, I fell asleep half way through. I wonder if they even get to air all 10 episodes they already have in the can before the show is canceled.

If you have not seen it, didn't miss much, copy of the BBC show with any humor removed.

It's like they went into the nearest Starbucks and plucked the first three out of work IT guys playing on their laptops and gave them a show for no reason.
They try way to hard to be as funny as the real version. They wanted to see what Lambo is the best model by only doing a standing mile that took almost 5 minutes a piece with all the spliced together footage. Pathetic.

Sometimes I saw glimpse of the original TG in some shots, but as soon as I heard narrative the illusion was over.

Watched the next to last episode and I have to admit I was laughing at times, they saved the best for last.

If I had never seen the original this might even been better.
