you find bikes you used to own on CL. Oddly enough I bought it originally for $500 with it having a missing second gear and put a 91' tranny/final drive in. Can still see the exhaust BanGuzzi put on it rusting away....

so I bought it, sold it to BanGuzzi who traded it to Kam, who sold it to my friend jessie, who sold it on CL to a guy who sold it a year later, and I last saw it listed for over $2k a while after that.

Nope.......... not going to go get it either.....

Like bad fish, it came back! I did like that bike. I think likely ruined the final drive you put on.

When we finally nutted up and sold off my daughters VW cabrio for parts earlier this year, we were happy to get $500 for a running w/ bad trans. never wrecked car.
Less than a month later we found it listed back on CL with no glass or convertible top, still bad transmission, for $700.

My first VW is up on CL right now.

I spent 4 years and almost $35,000 building that car. Kept for 7 or 8 years and then traded it for a $5000 1952 Chrysler hardtop. That guy kept it for 2 or 3 years then traded it away for a a big old Plymouth Belvedere 4 door that was worth maybe $3000. Now it's for sale for $6100.

A sold vehicle's afterlife is something I don't want to hear about.

Had a Wrangler sitting in the yard gathering rust. Wife's co-worker was interested in it for the gears. Sold it to her for $500.

Every time my wife started to tell me about what her co-worker was doing with the Jeep, I cut her short. It's gone, I didn't want to know.

"They sold this part to..." No. Don't want to know.
"They used..." No. Don't want to know.
"They sold it to a salvage yard for..." No. Don't want to know.

I had a Ford Ranger pickup with about a zillion miles on it, sold it to a local guy. For YEARS, every time something went wrong on the damned thing, I heard about it.
Every time, I told him, "t's an old truck, with a lot of miles on it, that's how it goes."
I was so happy when it finally died.

When I traded my Daytona for the Duke I really worried a lot about whether the new owner would be 'happy'. I love to detail bikes, and I put hours and hours into the Daytona, not wanting him to find a single flaw or dirty spot someday and think ill of me.

Since getting the bike, he's racked up the miles, removed the fairing, swapped the headlights for big Hellas, attatched straps and plugs for luggage and farkles, and, last I heard, was planning to repaint it roulette green. He told our mutual friend that it may be the best bike he's ever had. I am relieved and pleased.

I always enjoyed finding new homes for bikes that eventually made their way back to the shop after a while. It was nice to attempt to make sure they always ended up in good hands.

The downside was the few royal runny turds that always seemed to follow me to wherever I ended up. I hated telling the new owner that I already knew what was fucked up, and just how bad it was. I still see one of the old owner's bikes show up on Craigslist every few years. It always makes me laugh, because it stll has the old blown out shocks on it from one of my bikes. When the shit hit the fan and the checks bounced, I made damn sure the fancy new adjustables from his made their way somewhere else.

I should clarify: I didn't want to hear how they bought the Jeep for $500, took what they needed, then parted/sold it for $500+.

If it was like Pattio's situation, that would have been cool.

Pattios mechanic gave away a bike few years back, I think it was Yamaha Maxim, no title or keys, FREE to anyone who wants it, next week it's up on CL for $700, "needs battery runs great" or something like that...
