This was the Border Patrol, they bust everyone (and heads). No offence but Willie is one dumb shit if he thought rolling through customs with weed would be ok, even if the story that they smelled the pot is false, and if he was hotboxing the tourbus at the border, he's in the running for dumbfuck of the year, 2010.Zer0 wrote:A chickenshit move made by a little manwho can now brag that he busted a celebrity. Congrats asshole.
My buddy the CHP officer says he only busts people with loud pipes if they're being real retards about it. He said he could wait by the HD dealers andf shoot fish in the barrel all day, but he doesn't--because that would be chhickenshit.
I would love to see Junior get tickets every time he rolls through a stop, goes 1 mile over the speed limit, or does't signal on lane changes. Every time. For starters. Asshole.

My thoughts exactly. And what if it wasn't such a well liked celebrity. For example, if Jim Phelps got busted with a bag of weed you'd all be yelling to have him hanged. Yes I know you'd all like to have him hanged anyway but you get the point.

Billy, Rolly, I understand that. A law's a law, good or stupid, celebrity or not, fine, and I bet Officer Junior will say the same thing: "A law's a law," but something tells me Willie will get busted again long before we . . .thrasherbill wrote:My thoughts exactly. . . .rolly wrote:No separate code for celebrities.
We all know he can flash his badge, and they both can yuck it off, and off he goes.Zer0 wrote: see Junior get tickets every time he rolls through a stop, goes 1 mile over the speed limit, or does't signal on lane changes. Every time. For starters.
Now that I didn't get, I assumed he was entering the country. Call me old fashioned, but I always thought border security belonged, you know, on the border. Sorry Willie for calling you a dumb shit!Zer0 wrote:Billy, Rolly, I understand that. Getting off point, but I'm irked.
But now for my main point: you're right Rollie, it is dumb to try to take drugs through a border checkpoint, BUT . . . Sierra Blanca is not a point of entry. It's on Interstate 10. He wasn't entering the country. It was a checkpoint along a US Highway, where they're supposed to be looking for smuggled illegals, weapons, etc. whatever-- not <4 oz. of pot.
I know, a law's a law, but with all this border security hysteria, this guy tied himself, and arguably others up, for less than 4 oz. of weed. Great use of resources. I feel much safer now.
Not that it matters, but the Detyention Report Geek posted says more than 2, less than 4 oz. I know because I had to google "greater than and less than" to remember the difference between < and >thrasherbill wrote:Allegedly it was 6 ounces.
And in the US as well, unfortunately. We have them on just about every major freeway near the Mexican border, some of them 30 or 50 miles or so inlandon the 15 and 5 North way north of San Diego, and another on the 10 West coming out of Arizona. Yes, Arizona. --not sure about the Canadian border. I doubt it, since the US isn't as paranoid about illegal Canadians, as they are Mexicans.rolly wrote:Checkpoints belong in cold war espionage films.
I've run into checkpoints 50 or so miles south of the Canadian border. They're not as paranoid about illegal Canadians as they are Quebecois.Zer0 wrote: --not sure about the Canadian border. I doubt it, since the US isn't as paranoid about illegal Canadians, as they are Mexicans.
Spoken like someone who's never been shaken down by a bored cop with a chip on his shoulder.thrasherbill wrote:And really, does it matter if his bus was stopped for a "border" check or for not signalling a lane change? Either way the bus got stopped and an officer came up with cause to search the bus. I'm not saying the officer had just cause but the officer felt it was and therefore he carried out his duty, and found a large quantity of an illegal narcotic. Again, take the celebrity out of the equation and this is a non story.
Not true. Happened to me on many occasions.guitargeek wrote: Spoken like someone who's never been shaken down by a bored cop with a chip on his shoulder.
I think my point might have been missed. A random person was stopped in a road check resulting in a possession charge. My point is that the sentiment seems to be that because this random person happened to be a well known celebrity pot activist/user that he should not be charged. I disagree.guitargeek wrote:I dunno, maybe the cops are different in Canadia, but in Texas, they'll stop you because they don't like the looks of your vehicle, they'll do a complete "safety inspection" on the side of the road, and I know from personal experience that they'll stop a tour bus to try and get an autograph.
A different point than I was making but a very valid one.guitargeek wrote:And I maintain that Willie was targeted because he's not just any other citizen.
I'm with Geek. IF justice were blind, and IF cops were not selective in terms of whom they choose to pursue/arrest (cops/civilians or Willie's bus/Joe Shmoe's bus), then I'd not mind.guitargeek wrote:And I maintain that Willie was targeted because he's not just any other citizen.
SIERRA BLANCA – The Hudspeth County Attorney is ready to make a plea deal with the Red Headed Stranger.
“I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” with his guitar right there in the courtroom,” County Attorney Kit Bramblett said this week. “You bet your ass I ain’t gonna be mean to Willie Nelson.”
