What's wrong with this one?

Wait, what new board? Is that where all the cool kids went?

Some people are certainly conspicuous by their absence...

I've been having an increasing amount of my utmc interactions on another website called the 'face book'.

I think it was Yogi who warned of facebook "Wal-Martizing" the UTMC... but then again, he warned us of it on facebook, and I don't see him on this board very often anymore...

My wife is on it and it's one of many reasons I can't do this on Facebook

I could not tell you how naughty I've been...

^ I like how all the family photos are placed face down. Nice. And the thing is on a big sheet of plastic.

Teh Bookface is nice and all, but there's already been some stuff on there in my profile I'm not into other people seeing. Like ex-employees, stuff like that. People I couldn't stand in real life that live in my community that have tried to see my profile and the like via a friend request or what have you.
It's no secret that Facebook is not much more than a huge data-mining operation. I think information is not nearly secure there as it is here. Mr FBI/NSA guy can see this and that's fine because in a way it's expected but I don't want people I know and don't like reading my shit.
My own mother is not allowed to be my so-called "friend" on facebook. Nor are the dozen or so relatives that have tried. I'm just funny that way. Reality and Interwebz reality--never the twain shall meet.

This site works well enough for me.

Apart from all else that is wrong with Faecebook, there is their copyright policy. I know some folks around here are in the art business and like to post up their stuff and care about their copyrights being protected.
Well...
Facebook Terms of Service wrote:For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos ("IP content"), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook ("IP License"). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.
Just saying...

But mostly I was talking about the new UTMC board that BlackJoe was so kindly building, since this service is a bug laden, unsecured piece of crap.

Just noticed the pictures and plastic, this is not my place, someone in NC is kind enough to store my new toy in his den till the bike can be transported north.

Google is doing something similar to FaceSpace, I have followers and they get notified when I upload photos and video, with Latitude they can track my movement in real time and I can send out "Buz" or something. Not sure what I'll do when my wife discovers Gmail... will have lots of explaining.

That's not really bad at all though. Non-exclusive, subject to your settings and expiring when you remove the content. They need a clause like that because anything you post to your profile is published to all your friends, or if your privacy settings allow, everyone. The key is to be aware of your settings. The "unless shared with others, and they have not deleted" is ass-covering for technical limitations.

Not to say FB has been a paragon of trustworthiness, just that I don't feel threatened by that paragraph (I think they had much scarier copyright language before, with Facebook claiming rights without limitation, and this is the response to the outcry over that). And they've played fast and loose with all that data we give them, intentionally or no.

Applications and games are the biggest privacy hole now. People don't realize or don't care that when they click "Allow" on MafiaVille that they're giving away all the information about them on their profile… including their friends.

Thank you, sir, for all you do.
You'll get no hassle from me; mostly I was just curious.

Cheers!

I rarely ever use Facebook, and when I do, it is posting cute pics of my son for my cousins and aunts and old friends to see. Although I've got several ootmik friends in the FB, I still prefer having a place to share things ootmik things with ootmiks (without figuring out all the privacy group settings in FB).

So far, nobody that I was not really friends with in High School has bugged me here on the board.

Man, I add almost EVERYBODY on FB. I do it with a chuckle as I pull back the veil, knowing full well that with just a little bit of digging, they will surely find something to be uncomfortable with.

Why yes, conservative dad/aunt/cousin/cousin's husband, that's me in drag with a balding gentleman chewing on one of my prosthetic breasts. It was a hell of a party, why do you ask?

Heh heh...

Thus far, the only person I've turned down was my nephew. He's 12, and my sister is sheltering him to the point of living in a Jesus filled cave. My sister suggested that he add me as a friend, to which I replied "Really? I mean, OK, but it's your call, and you know what he's gonna be exposed to!"

She immediately changed her mind, and thanked me for correcting her error in judgment.

you're cute.

For some reason, this reminds me of an old interview I read with Jerry Garcia/ Greatful Dead. They were asked about the taping of their shows, which the Dead facilitated. Their answer was that 'after if leaves our speakers, it belongs to everyone. They can do whatever they want with it.' I always thought that was kinda cool.
