Frankly, the dampening of that suspension is probably more astounding to me than the jump. Science is fucking cool.

(Psst. It's "damping.")
But yeah, that is also very cool shit!

(Psst, actually both words are correct)
DAMPING: Dampening simply means a shock is being slowed in it's upward or downward travel by a force other than the main spring system.

Well then, that's the last time I listen to my physics prof when he gives me lessons about English.
Edit:
Upon further research, I'm sticking to my guns on this one. The correct term is damping. They key here that makes the distinction between damping and dampening is that we're talking about a mechanical oscillator. Damping is a way of energy reduction in such a system, where the closest definition of dampening means to deaden or to soundproof. Close, but not quite.

damping (dmpng)
The action of a substance or of an element in a mechanical or electrical device that gradually reduces the degree of oscillation, vibration, or signal intensity, or prevents it from increasing. For example, sound-proofing technology dampens the oscillations of sound waves. Built-in damping is a crucial design element in technology that involves the creation of oscillations and vibrations.
EDIT EDIT: I'm also not going to argue this too heatedly until I get the opinion of a mechanical vibrations professor.

No...my pants became a little wet, hence dampening.
