He seems more "lucky" than "situationally aware". It didn't look like he even looked when the first accident happened. You see keeping his cool, i see no reaction, No throttle, no look... That was apparently not his day to go.
Lucky fella.

I honestly don't think he had the TIME to be that situationally aware.

I disagree. There is ALWAYS time to be situationally aware. That is part of riding bikes... being psychic. It is your job, no obligation, to pay attention to everything that is happening around you. AROUND you... that includes behind you. (Especially behind you)

That entire transaction took six seconds, and almost every motorcycle rear view mirror *I've* personally ever had points right about to my shoulder.
I would venture to say that even a hyper vigilant rider could easily miss those cars coming up at him like that. Those cats were probably carrying a 40 mile an hour speed differential, and were obviously not closing in the biker's lane.
One would either have to be lucky, or *legitimately* psychic to have seen that coming. And even then, by the time the average human brain is able to process the variables of the situation, let alone take action, the event is likely to have begun unfolding. What else is he supposed to do in that situation other than what he did, pull a Trinity style back flip of his bike and crush the oncoming car to a stop? (<-- Sounds snarkier than intended.)
I think the dude did a fine job at avoiding what he was presented with.
The rest is just luck.
What would YOU have done differently?

It's always better to be lucky than good.

Not sure... wasn't there. Any crash you don't get into is my favorite crash. SO... be it luck or whatever... I wouldn't call it skill. I'm glad he was alright.
