I think the Dalai Lama was just being polite. He understood the guy, but he looked confused because he didn't know the translation of "your joke sucks yak nuts" from Tibetan.

I thought it was hilarious, mostly because I think I heard the Dalai Lama respond, "You think it isn't possible?"
