Things I learned from my studies abroad:

1. No amount of martial arts and workouts were going to prepare me for that one fucking hill that I had to climb at least once a day.

2. There’s a reason why, in the old days, they wore boots: fucking uneven cobblestone streets.

3. German cafeteria food is just like American cafeteria food.

4. Spanish speaking people from all over the world, when gathered together, remind me of my family.

5. When watching a local festival program, keep an eye out for the muzzleloading rifles.

6. The Italians know what to do with ice cream.

7. Bavarians are like Texans, except in cute leather pants.

8. Belgian beer.

9. Lebkuchen.

10. French train stations suck, so pack accordingly.

11. There are too many obnoxious Americans overseas.

12. Never hand your documents to someone your gut tells you not to trust.

This information dissapoints me significantly, yet I cannot figure out which side of the comparison the dissapointment is coming from.

I beg to differ with regards to German cafeteria food. I lived on that shit for a year, and it was terrible in a totally different way.

I sometimes miss it.

i bought the cafeteria plan at the language school i was at to save money. but there were many days when the smell was enough to send me to the dorm for my own bread and cheese. the rest of the time it just looked unpalatable.

the variety of stuff at the grocery store and various bakeries was great, however. just not great for my budget.

i took quite a few pictures (http://www.www.utmc-forum.org/pub/viewt ... t=16617718) but there were some things i saw when i couldn't get to my camera...

like the little white haired french guys wearing berets. and the french train conductors in the small towns that wear those funny looking black and orange hats. and the french trains that have got to be 50 years old still being used.

We are fucking scintillating, thank you very much.

And the English too. Whenecver I was at a beer-related festival in Europe, and heard lots of loud people, they were usually English involved.

Then there was that time when I joined a table-full of Limeys once and was amazed to see that two of the four were missing their two front teeth. I asked if they were twins and they laughed like I was the funniest motherfucker in the world. Then after a while, I showed them how loud I could burp, and a minute later some Aussies magically appeared. And they were reeeaal bloody thirsty, and impressed with my burp so, that they bought me a liter.

That town is no longer standing

Oh yeah, I also was able to get the English so worked up about how they spell liter like how the French do. The Aussies didn't seem fazed until one of the Limeys pointed out that the Aussies can neither spell nor build motorcycles, but they sure can drink.
