coondoggie on /. wrote:"NASA today said a strong-to-severe geomagnetic storm is in progress following a massive solar flare and coronal mass ejection (CME). CMEs are a solar phenomenon that can send solar particles into space and affect electronic systems in satellites and on Earth. Simulations indicate that solar wind plasma has penetrated close to geosynchronous orbit starting at 9am today. Geosynchronous satellites could therefore be directly exposed to solar wind plasma and magnetic fields. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras after nightfall, NASA stated."
I'm not seeing any Aurorae at 51°28'55" North, maybe I'm too far south. But the light-pollution around here is also quite crazy.
Anyone further north than 51°? Notice anything?

Nope. Other than the Triumph won't start, but that's nothing new.

Hmm, I've been wondering why so many people are walking around on NASA's campus wearing tin-foil hats...

Does it really count if, in the picture of you posing parallel to the posts propping up the "Parallele" sign, you're actually standing perpendicular to the Parallel? Perhaps prostrate is the preferred practice.

Go back and do it right.

As far as magnetic storms, I closed the door to the refrigerator rather hard, and magnets rained down to the floor.

Richard Feynman is great but he has ironically given me a deeper understanding of Insane Clown Posse just now.

Fixed that for ya.
