When my grandfather fell in love with his car-owner's daughter(my grandmother), he was told he would have to retire from racing before he could marry her.
Watching that video makes it very apparent why.

Somebody posted a video here, "Formula 1, the Oh My God Everyone Died Years", or something.
Totally worth watching.

Yeah I watched that F1 video too. It made me cry. One of things I find crazy about this video though is how good those old tall skinny wheels are at rolling over barricades.

Its amazing to me to see some of these guys, get up and walk off without so much as a limp.
Im sure they were the exception to the norm.

Early days of racing, any racing 2 or 4 wheels, were a cure for old age.

Wow. That's like watching Faces of Death in B&W.

Before nomex, a lot of people thought that it would be safer to be ejected than stuck in the car and burn alive. Just like sailors wouldn't learn to swim.
wasn't it Stirling Moss who objected that wearing a helmet would make him look sissy ?

BTW That's A.A. Bondy singing. I believe our own Scumbag just saw him play in Omaha a few days ago. If y'all like that stuff, definitely seek out his music and buy his albums!

A-fucking-mazing. Does kind of make one respect the concept of a fire-suit a little more.
