Where to value old records?

Anyone know a good resource for figuring out the value of some old records? We ran across some old 78's while cleaning out the grandparents-in-law's place, and some look like they might be collectible.

I recaptured some of my old vinyl from my brother, looked on eBay to see if any of it was worth anything. Turns out, strangely, if nothing else it's held its value. 8 bucks for any shitty old punk album then is worth about 8 bucks now, too!

Give it a shot, your results may vary.

Yeah, unless you have some rare gems and/or first pressings, they don't really have much monetary value. I would give better odds on 78's, though.

Personally I'd just buy a 78 speed turntable and enjoy em.

EDIT: This opinion is based on the fact that I inherited several hundred old records, including a bunch of gems that seem like they should be collectors items. The most valuable one I found was worth like, $20.

Pro-tip: If there is a catalog number anywhere on the record, this can be a good way to find out all of the info (and going price on various websites) for the recording. Sometimes I didn't even have to put in any other information in the google tab.

Yeah, I hunted around and determined that what they have is basically worth squat. It was a close thing though. There was a five disk Fats Waller sleeve in good condition with cool art, and I found single records of similar vintage going for a couple hundred bucks. Unfortunately it was filled with a random assortment of titles and there's no sign of the F.W. disks anywhere. :(

Have you tried to match the random assortment with other sleeves in the collection; they may have just ended up disorganized.

Also, if you have a vintage, five disc set of Fats Waller, for fuck sake, digitize that thing!

Yeah, dug through the box and no sign of the discs. There's a few more boxes back at the house that I'll go through next time we're up. Fingers crossed.
