(I refuse to say "snow machine" since it apparently is the term of choice by Ms. Palin)
Good day for a lil ride eh?

Ho-ly-Fuck!
My gut turned into a knot watching that. As he was approaching I was thinking to myself, "he better slow down, that looks like a cornice."

Those things are dangerous, I'll stick to motorcycles.
(No one actually calls it a snow machine, do they? A snow machine is the machine that makes snow at the ski hill when there's not enough of the fallen variety, or so I thought)

Snow machine. Snowmobile. Sled. Supposedly invented here in NH. People from all around come here every winter to kill themselves on the trails. Darwinistic tourism and recreation.

What's with all the hate?
I see no squidly behavior at all; dude just underestimated the overhang of a cornice. Hell, even the most seasoned of pros fuck that one up (Craig Kelly died that way, and he made his entire life around being a badass in the snow).

No hate. Just trying to be funny.
That video did make my insides go a little wiggly. Serious scary shit.

Yes, but it's a different creature compared to motorcycles. Snowmobiles have a shorter season and their usage is dependent on a narrower conditions range. Less available time to ride = a lot of inexperience. We have an industry here for snowmobile tourism, with rentals and "Sled and Stay" packages. Since you don't need an endorsement to ride or rent one, there are a lot of people who are thumbing the throttle who really shouldn't. Many more crashes due to DWI. Then there's thin ice on lakes. Someone is always going through, like the two drunk yahoos who found themselves on open water on the big lake this past Saturday night. At least they were rescued.
There are also the skimmers who bomb across open water. Some don't make it to the other side.
I'm not saying that snowmobiling is bad. I had fun with my limited experience. There just seems to be more people bringing their stupid to the sport.
As for the video, I would have bailed, screaming, and then gotten up from my impression to find yellowed snow.
