when the cure becomes worse than the disease

around thanksgiving i got really ill. a cold went quickly into bronchitis. now this week i am finally feeling better.
5 rounds of antibiotics, 3 steroid shots, two weeks of prednisone, an er visit, and then two different corticosteroid inhalers, more prednisone and a nebulizer followed. and i won't mention the weight i've gained.
4 days ago i noticed weird swelling around the base of my neck and i decided that a month and a half of various steroid inhalers was making things worse (all the while dealing with the med induced depression i get on that shit). so this is my third day off of it.
today i did a george st. pierre rushfit workout. and i didn't have an asthma attack. just tired as hell thanks to not being able to workout since freaking november.
fuck that shit.
my theory is that the steroid inhalers, which are powders not liquids, have been keeping my lungs irritated far beyond the point when i would have been well...

That sucks, one of our resident superheros having to go through all of that shit!
Welcome to the future, and aint it grand getting old?
(I am very glad to hear you have turned a corner. Good luck!)

You're probably correct in your theory. Every medication, even aspirin, has side effects. Failure on the part of your physician(s) to take all this into account when shoving you the latest products from the big pharm collective is common.
Keep it simple, know your body, follow your intuition.
Good luck, hope the worst is behind you.

My dad had COPD, and watching him in his final days, I had to wonder if all those inhalers did anything positive. I honestly think that openly listening to your body's cues is the answer, as vague as that may be. No doubt that exercise helps.

to be honest, the prednisone pills did far better at opening up the airways than the powder inhalers did, which didn't work at all. but you just can't take too much of it. a megadose can make you feel amazing!
but the consequences of long term use are bad.

When I met Cloƫ 300 years ago she was living her asthma with a lot of inconvenience but those last few years she was provided different medicines that allow her to have a "normal" breathe again even with a lot of cats home and without any of the previous cardiac after effects, maybe you should talk to her about her treatments. She even can afford to laugh a little sometimes without choking

thanks! though the superhero thing is funny!!!
being a typical <s>tough</s> stupid parental unit, i didn't even tell the kids or anyone when i headed to the er. told them i was going back to the doc's office. i drove myself.
i blame the low blood oxygen level for that bit of stupidity. for awhile there i felt i needed to find a live-in something or other for no other reason than to be the person who tells you your lips are blue and then they pack you in the car and drive...
it was scary for awhile.
i need to move to where i can make friends who will watch my back now and then. texans are all warm and fuzzy till you tell them not to come over to your house drunk off their asses in front of your kids.

You just live too far away from me. I *never* go over to anyone's house drunk off my ass in front of their kids. I plan with them to get a babysitter and only then do we get drunk off of our asses together at one of our houses.

yesterday i walked up to one of my third floor classes(i have two, each in a different building). no asthma issues.
and the swelling at the base of my neck has gone down a little.
now the exercise begins. i am on day three of rushfit. last night i had one of my kids take a "before" picture. but that photo may never see the light of day...

other than intermittent flashes of depression all is well. and that is probably still the fucking steroids.
