This is a third world performance, and even there only minor league, at best. And I mean both the "journalists" who made this piece but also the society at large that tolerates such behavior to such an extend that a news show wouldn't rip fuckin preacherman there three new ones, and a cherry on top. Seriously, nightline is a name that I know from pop culture even over here, so I'll assume it's a pricey show on a large network, not some po-dunk shoestring budget 3 AM local news affair that only employs the people who couldn't make it elsewhere in TV but didn't have the brains to get out while they were young. The presenter was too young for that sort of thing, by the looks of him.

The "team leader" is a home schooled teenage beauty-pageant junkie, her boss is a sinister cult-leader esque, money-grabbing bible bashing "priest" (I use the quotation marks here out of what respect I have for other priests, which isn't that much to begin with) and the GET AWAY WITH IT! Two questions about whether maybe their victims should get proper head doctoring, one question about the money they are siphoning from their victims and not only that it's just one single question, THEY LET HIS ANSWER STAND! UNCHALLENGED!

Where was the cut to a real mental health expert to tell people about the dangers this sort of SHIT poses for the victims, their families and the community? Where was the angry and/or depressed former victim who told the tale of how he/she lost money to this gang and his/her head didn't get any better?
There wasn't even any mockery! At least they could have made fun of it, ridiculed it, but NO, they pussyfooted around, not offend any christians, oh no, we mustn't!

A serious journalist would have pressed home what the fuck they are doing, a serious journalist would have done SOMETHING to show these scam artists for the delusions-of-grandeur suffering idiots or plain frauds these fucks are. A proper journalist wouldn't have let them get away, but this guy did. A proper journalist would have pulled a .357 on that collar wearing scumbag and told him to exorcise that, at the very least.
There was no one in this clip who shouldn't be either in serious psychiatric care or prison, and that includes the presenter. He wouldn't be an inmate, but he'd be mopping the floors.

I've been out of the christendom game personally for almost two decades now, and I don't just feel offended by these fuckers and their deeds and this shitty journalism as a thinking man, I feel offended as someone living in a christianity dominated society, I feel offended on behalf of my catholic mother.

I firmly believe anyone should be free to believe and follow whatever faith they like, but doing medical harm to others, offering fake cures for actual conditions, THAT IS NOT ON!

Except for that latter part, not recruitment as such, but religious instruction classes till 7th or 9th grade or so.

Still, proselytizing and parts of the community being abandoned into poverty are things I pretty much expect from you lot, but for a litigation obsessed country with a ridiculous health care industry, this is still just fucking shocking. Come to think of it, I do hope someone drags this douchebag and his douchebusting trio through the courts till they squeal like a pig.

Really? I thought going to therapy was really big over there. And that all those traumatized soldiers would have done a lot to destigmatize it.

i have a friend who this year went into therapy. for being an alcoholic due to ptsd since his stint as a medic in vietnam.
that's right. it took over 40 years for him to get help for his nightmares and shit.

and when you see rich people getting therapy in movies, it's almost always a negative insinuation.

i've watched bella martha several times and the way they portray her seeing a therapist is much different than how it is perceived here in america.

a couple of my kids were on antidepressants after their dad left us. the nurse who prescribed them told me that once the kids were prescribed the stuff they'd never be able to get private insurance to cover any mental health issues in the future as it would be considered a pre-existing condition. so yeah.

Military vets are actually afraid of getting mental health treatment through the VA due to lack of doctor / client privilege and what is seen as too much power for the VA to declare a vet incompetent under the law. I know of PTSD sufferers who have payed for treatment out of their own pockets to avoid notifying the military. It's a bit weird. I also think mental health treatment suffers from stigma still is that there are enough quacks out there who attempt treatment for the attention. That or people who are mentally sick should just , "Snap out of it."

As to the video, I think it's a combination of the WTF factor couple with the hot factor of the girls with their secret agent code names and whatnot. I kinda doubt ABC could run with some guy who says, "I perform exorcisms, but many of my referrals really are mentally ill so I refer them to treatment there. No you can't film and no I don't want to comment further." Also, if they did film and it's a bunch of people on their knees quietly praying, there's no drama. But with Charlie's Angels and the lady raped by demons all screaming and gesticulating there's plenty of drama. It lets certain people laugh at the stupidity and attention seeking of the people filmed. Heck, I'm a total Believer and I thought those people were a bunch of fruit-loops.

I believe it depends on how people focus their drama. The getting raped by demons lady could've been (or also be) a drama seeking mental health patient. Who knows if she runs to her shrink right after the exorcism to seek relief there too.

Lastly, I know a Catholic priest who's a trained, licensed psychologist. He has a practice here in Connecticut, but he doesn't wear priestly garb when he practices psychology. Here's a guy who believes in Satan, demons, etc., but also believes in modern mental health treatments for mental illnesses.

Makes one wonder just what these people are up to. What do they really believe, since it's a bit unbelievable that they could actually be serious. And what sort of evil shyster is the Rev. Bob Larson to put his daughter and her poor innocent playmates up to such creepiness? A visit to his website for the DWJD® (Do What Jesus Did) Spiritual Freedom Church will hook you up with books and DVDs, allow you to send your generous donations etc. But wait... For only $99 you can get core team member benefits! Ah, now I see. It's not so pernicious -- just good 'ol American marketing at work. And another fine example of why one shouldn't pay any attention to network "news". Fascinating, in a train wreck sort of way, though...

Every day I think I should get therapy. Srsly. Between the nightmares and everything else... I should, just to make sure I'm not as crazy as anyone else.
