THEY'RE FREGGIN EVERYWHERE!

So I'm looking for a dirt bike for my imaginary Canadian girlfriend, because we plan on spending pretty much the entire summer riding dirt bikes.
All I can say is WOW, this is the most saturated I've ever seen the market for dirt/trail/enduro bikes. Scanning the Sacramento and SF craigslists, I'm seeing the kind of deals that I used to perch and wait and hope for months on end to find, only now I'm seeing them on tons and tons of bikes.
The conversation switched *really* fast from "let's see if we can find something we could afford" to "I'm not really sure which one of these I should tell you to get, because the options are too numerous."

If you're even thinking about getting into something dirty, now seems to be the time.

I think that may be specific to California. I sometimes browse Craiggers.com for cool dirt bikes and always see tons of cool stuff in SoCal and Bay area.

I regularly fantasize about flying down and riding dirt trails and gravel roads all the way home.

I've been wanting an XR400 for awhile now... but that pesky empty wallet keeps getting in the way

Girl decided she wanted a two stroke, so now there's a 1996 KDX 200 in my garage. It has been determined by my imaginary Canadian girlfriend, btw, that my garage is a tardis, because of how much stuff it can hold in a space that is way, way too small.

That last gen KDX is a great bike.

Yeah, it's hard to find anyone with a negative opinion of em.
I'm probably gonna take it for a shakedown run or two to make sure that the thing is ready to rip when she gets here this summer. Right off the bat, I can tell it's gonna need a bit of flywheel weight and maybe a different pipe to suit her noobness. Easiest bike I've ever kickstarted, though.

My brother had an earlier one aircooled one and loved it. They are popular woods bikes up here and I haven't heard of people bothering much with flywheel weights (edit: I just read a craigslist listing where a weighted flywheel had been added).

I have a feeling there will be on in my future, given how cheap they can be had for.

The only reason I'm concerned about a fww is that she is still a noob, and has a habit of doing some impressively low speed tractor climbs up steep hills. Like, I never think she's gonna make it with the entry speed she carries, but she just keeps right on chugging up to the top.
I'm hoping that a fww weight will take out some of the urge to stall while doing that, and mellow the bike out for the inevitable instance where she accidentally finds the power band mid-climb.

I'm hoping that doesn't carry over to street bikes, coz I'm looking at paying my bills and feeding myself this summer by (finally getting off my ass and) selling my excess bikes.

I actually traded it for an XR100, and a Honda trail CT70. I loaned it to the kid for a weekend, and his parents hated it, so we made a deal. I should sell dope.
