I just read a posting on another forum where a rider had just returned from the Nurburger ring, and when asked if he had video, he said that the use of onboard cams has been banned. I hit teh googs and immediately found this:

I think it's a really interesting development. I can certainly say that thinking about, or fiddling with, or over thinking something that I'm doing, or how I'm lookin', with a camera has cost me some riding time that might otherwise have simply been 'fun'. I suppose the reason for a ban might not be to suppress the dangers of narscissim but to limit their liability (by way of reducing the amount of available evidence) in any particular thing that goes on on their track.

+1 on the liability/evidence thing, hadn't even occurred to me. I'm slipping...

Apart from cameras that are held on by a nice, sturdy bold, there are cameras held on by but a suction cup, and I bet you that a few times, idiots had a camera held on with tape or holding it under their armpit or some such nonsense. Also, if anything goes wrong like a camera falling off, that's a lot of trouble right there, since they'd not need be inspected for road legality if it's only a suction cup. Quite apart from the question who inspected the design for road legality before it went on sale and all that.

It also has to do with keeping people from trying to prove something. Here in the mid-atlantic, a lot of local track organizations don't like to let novice groups run cameras or timing devices, because people start trying to beat personal bests, push corners harder, or come up with a good video for their favorite forum, and get in way over their head. Obviously you can't stop someone from having a friend with a stop watch, but at least you can keep it to a minimum.
