So after more than a year of being on the dole, some seriously challenging job retraining, months of little or no response to hundreds of resume submissions, I finally have a job.

Pay for the two week training/evaluation period is right at what I was making previously, and I stand to get a pretty good bump up when I go regular. I feel like someone has lifted a small moon off my shoulders.
The company does IT management/consulting for small businesses so I'll be spending a fair amount of time travelling to client sites to do work. I asked the ops manager if he minded if I took the bike to visit clients, "Mind? Hell, I'll be jealous!" I'm thinking this'll be a good fit.
Fuck Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

Unlike Calamari, I hope you find yourself a job at
the end of the summer.

The dole quickly wears on you, especially if you have a family and home to contend with.
Calamari, congratulations on getting back on your own two feet. I've been through the whole shebang and it sucks balls. With teeth.

Thanks all for the well wishes. I feel incredibly lucky to have landed this position. A lot of the gigs I was looking at were paying barely more than I've been getting on unenjoyment, and being five weeks from benefits running out, I was starting to look at bar tending and pizza delivery just to maintain some level of income. Not only will this get us back on track financially, the work schedule will allow me to get back into theater. Something I've been sorely missing the last few years.

This.
When I first got laid off I figured it was a reasonable opportunity to retrain and get back in to software. Plus I'd have a little extra bandwidth for a couple decent rides. Then Mrs. C lost her job and the belt tightening commenced. We had to downsize out of a house in the city to a small condo in the 'burbs, and I couldn't afford to run the bike for much more than commuting to classes. We're pretty good at communicating with each other and working out issues with a minimum of drama, but the last couple months have been tense to say the least. Tomorrow we're heading out for a little two up ride and celebration.

Congratulations!
Glad to hear that the uncertainty of Wednesday evening turned into a real job on Thursday!
Any idea how far you'll be traveling?

Mostly in the Tacoma/Redmond/Everett triangle, but they've got clients as far south as Oly and as far north as B-ham.
