I've been riding for awhile now, done lots of stupid things I wish I hadn't, but this . . . well, it's so beyond stupid that I can't even comprehend it. Epic failure to engage the brain.... Epic.
The link states:
Police have identified a motorcyclist photographed texting while riding along Sydney's M2 Motorway yesterday.
The rider, who was wearing moccasins instead of boots and no leathers, had no hands on the handlebars.
The number plate of the white Ducati Monster is clearly visible in the original photograph.
If you know the rider send an email to
news@nine.com.au.
Police Traffic Services Commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley told 2GB's Ray Hadley the owner of the bike had been identified.
"For about the last five years this would be about the most stupid thing I've seen on the roadways, so there you go," Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
He said police officers were "knocking on doors in the Burwood area" to try and find the rider.

I'm no detective or anythig, but if the cops have his plate #, know his name, and they need to go "knocking on doors" to find him. Can we safely assume he is dead in a ditch somewhere?

I dunno but maybe he moved recently?

Unless they can prove the owner was himself at the controls, they don't got him. As long as he tells 'em "wasn't me", he'd be out of that.
Dunno about Australian law but in Germany, you can refuse to make any statements indicting your spuses, direct relatives or in-laws or any person that gave you the info in a professional manner if you're a priest, journalist or lawyer.
So over here, he could get out of it by at least pretending that.
Friend of my father used to get out of speeding tickets he got on his bike repeatedly, he even offered to tell the cops who was "actually" riding. He'd begin the sentence with "he lives in Tel Aviv" and never heard another thing about it.
They closed that loophole for speeding fines (only the fines, not the points), but in this situation they could probably get out of it likewise. Although, knowing the pimps and whores that run our courts, were any DA to actually pursue this to court, the judge would probably not believe it and send him down.

watch the video. a leopard simply cannot change his spots. Anyone that stupid remains too stupid to keep his mouth shut, and, well, he piles one lie on top of the other to no avail.
Frankly, he's lucky to be here and able to continue lying.

Millions of italians and spanish kids on scooters are reading this and they go "and ? ... WTF... he's just riding and texting ,what's the big deal ? plus the pussy's wearing a helmet "
Maybe he's checking his speed with the GPS on his iphone, or his DB output, or route planning. You wanted portable technology, you have it. I've seen this before in real life. Natural selection.

Yes, stupid pretty much covers it but as usual the fuss is misdirected---he is a 600pound missile...the outrage is based (by the cops) on the obvious, enabled by the complete visibility of his actions. But what about the more hidden more dangerous (by a factor of five to 100 just based upon mass alone--car & truck drivers--by a factor of hundreds based upon relative populations. What you you rather face--a texting semi driver or a texting biker? Are they seeking the public's help for everyone of *them* that drives without hands on the wheel, doing *whatever* inside their cockpits? Not really...as usual the cops (and their bosses) target the low hanging fruit and leave the real threat buried in the ground, being too much trouble to actually dig up and dispose of...
The only solution vis a vis public safety (if that is a sufficiently legit goal) is to ban all interactive tech from the drivers sight and reach and punish any physically evident circumvention at the level of impaired driving. Otherwise, just forget this and let (human) nature wreck her havoc.

Came to this a bit late, but just clicked on the link. They caught up with him. BS explanation, $265 fine, revoked drivers license, now mum's for his chauffeur.
Since he didn't learn any physical lessons, he'll be back.
