People do some crazy irrational shit when they feel threatened.

^ Yes.
Kicking the car (for whatever reason, seemingly valid or not) is going to provoke the person in heavy vehicle to react. Red mist, etc. Aggression rarely solves an issue, and in this case escalated it.
The bike riding chap acted like a cock. The SUV driver acted like a cock but had a bigger stick.

(In response to Stiles and the "feeling threatened" factor.)
Looks more like a straight up case of road rage, to me. My guess is that the camera person didn't randomly start filming and catch this. More likely it was a "Holy shit, I need to get this on film for the cops."
The scenario I imagine is:
Chick does something dumb to biker.
Biker gets mad and has some interaction with chick (punches her car, maybe; exchanges words).
Cue the headlight kick.
After that, chick loses temper and goes for the hulk smash (the tire turn in is pretty telling, to me).
Seeing that hulk smash is ineffective and dude is up and walking towards her car, she backs up and goes in for another ram.
She manages to back up pretty far, and it looks like (if there's another car behind her) there's plenty of sidewalk she could have used to bail the other direction, so the threat factor doesn't really come into play from the way I see it. Mostly this chick just looks pissed.
I know this is all totally speculative, but that's just the way I see this going down.
Plus, I've been in road rage situations where I've wanted to ram motherfuckers off the road, too. Hell, there was one time I *tried* to crunch someone (not to this violent of an end, though; mine was totally slow speed and would have been a minor fender bender at absolute worst, but I'll tell that story at the bottom of the post).
I consider myself an extremely level headed and calm person, but you put someone under an extreme enough load of general life stress (which, holyfuckingshit have I been under those loads during the very few times I've had road rage) and they can snap.
Maybe this was the case with the driver. Or maybe she was just a fucking psycho. Or both.
OK, quick road rage story: Driving a 16' box truck, trying to merge eastbound onto the bay bridge. I forget which entrance, but it's right before the bridge and you merge in from the left. Traffic is moving at maybe five miles an hour. Everyone is doing the zipper like normal "stuck in bay bridge traffic" people normally do. Only the car behind me and to my right didn't want to let me in. I had the gap initially, but when I started to go, he blatantly sped up, took my spot, and laid on his horn. It was an obvious dick move on his part.
The thing was, I was already about a third of the way into the lane, so he couldn't actually make it all the way past my truck.
Well at this point in time, I had been being abused by my job (the company regularly gets in trouble with state and federal regulators for their mistreatment of employees) and had been worked something like 70 hours already by... let's call it Thursday.
All I know is that it was late at night, I had just gotten off work, and I was looking forward to getting another 4 hours of sleep before having to be back on the job for yet another 16 hour day.
This, by the way, had gone on for weeks.
So I fucking snapped. Maniacally snapped. Instead of moving back over so the car could shove past, I just started laughing my ass off, and cranked the wheel as hard as I could in his direction. Granted, we were only going like 5-10 tops, but still, 16' box truck vs some shitty sedan.
I swerve, laughing. Dude swerves, terrified. The three other lanes swerve, surprised. I'm still laughing at the guy, because at this point I've fucking lost it, and I think it's the funniest thing on Earth.
But at the same time, I feel bad because it could have fucked up someone else's day (ya never know what could have happened).
I felt less bad, though, when I saw that one of the other motorists who had to swerve was ALSO laughing like it was the funniest thing he had ever seen.
So mine had a happy ending, which is cool, but the point is still the same. Normal people can turn into real assholes if you fuck with them at the wrong moment. Personally, for whatever reason, I think this chick just out and out wanted to kill this motherfucker.

Anything's possible - we only see what's on that clip, not what happened before.

Totally.
All speculation. The high pressure road rage snap is just my guess.

Both parties are total dicks. None of this needed to happen, rider could have simply dealt with the fact that driver "appears" to have restricted his lane split. Not in defense of the drivers reaction, but everything from that point is directly related to the rider's unnecessary aggression.

I have the feeling that this started before the restricted lane split.
Like I said *something* had to start that dude filming...
But both being total dicks. Yeah.
But it happens. I know there's a very large percentage of people on this board/community who've laid boots and fists on the cars of dickhead motorists.

Guilty as charged, but I won't speculate as to what transpired before the cameras started rolling. Maybe something bad, maybe nothing at all. Maybe the driver was innattentive when they attempted a lane change, and became scared when assaulted resulting in a panicked attack.
Maybe maybe maybe, don't know for certain, so from this angle the rider is wrong.

From this angle EVERYBODY is wrong!
I'm just glad the rider didn't actually get smooshed. And I can't imagine how fucked the driver is gonna be in court (assuming there isn't some corrupt bribery action or whatnot).
Chick hit like, what, four cars and a bike while trying to run someone over?
Yikes!

Who knows what happened, but now I'm gonna pop off. Against motorcyclists.
Where I live, car drivers are generally really generous toward us splitters. But Sometimes traffic comes to a stop before the car can position itself for us. I've been in that situation as a cager when one time a squid, who couldn't make it through starts blipping and really revving at me. 5 seconds pass and traffic moves. I roll down the window and yell sorry. He slammed my hood as he passed.
Yes, it'd be nice if everyone always made room for us, but too many riders have a sense of entitlement, that everyone must make way, or they're gonna throw a tantrum.
Maybe he was one of them. But he was not a real bright bulb to kick a car with no getaway. WTF did he expect? Both were dumb people.
