What a crap thing to do.

I'm part of the problem, too. I love news, I love crime news, I love breaking news, and therefore I click and buzz just like the crap perpetrator intends.

I was working on some livin-in-america observations about this crap when I realized some of the freshest in my mind were Norway and France.

Crap.

So beyond fucked up.... depraved, tragic, inexplicable!

Another derranged idiot senselessly shooting people he didn't know, for no other reason than to make a infamous name for himself. Sadly, the press is all too happy to oblige him and, like Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the villain's name will remain at the tip of our tongues while the victims remain a mere footnote of this horrific event.

Regarding the press, this is one instant where the freedom of the press should be reasonably curtailed. About the only instance where, unless they could be convinced to volunteer to shut up as a group, someone ought to consider making a law.
Spree shootings happen in clusters. Why? Because, whatever reasons the deranged deviants and evil fucks that do this have, being the fucking center of attention, being in charge, being the guy everyone talks about and who gets everybody all worked up is high up there. They see the media frenzy, the public fucking panic that erupts after a spree killing and boom, they make up their mind that it's time to do it.
I saw an actual expert-psychologist who studies spree killings appear on a BBC news program about a spree killing here in Germany a few years back. The first question was, of course, why does this happen? The first words out of his mouth, and the only thing he said, was a desperate plea for the media to stop buzzing about on the subject lest they'd help trigger another one. Why? You. He said that. The experts that get to go on the BBC tend to know what they are talking about.

So far nobody I know personally, but a local sports radio show lost one of their interns in the shooting, and that has caused the radio show to pull out of this big derby promotion this evening, which has resulted in cancelling the multi-league bout I was running as an official. Not that derby or anything else should trump a mass murder, but people should be taking time to be with friends and loved ones, so missing all those sweaty hugs tonight is much worse than just cancelling an event.

I'm glad the ootmicks seem to be O.K.

Shit. These things seem to happen, don't they?

Is there anything anyone can do to stop them? I don't think so. There are so many people in so many states of mind, and it's always been impossible to be your brothers keeper.

So, I think it is a reminder to say to yourself that since you cannot know what the next year, month, week, day, or minute will bring,

You have to live now.

You might not have a year, so live now.

Maybe not even a month,

You know there's nothing you can do about the future, but there is something you can do about right now, so, you have to live

Now.

I got no text from Thack, not sure if it's because he's got no love or because he knows I'd have returned fire...

Everyone I know seems to be fine. I think Antman and I are closest to the theater. Were I a batman nut I may well have been there.

@roadmissle:

oops, i don't have your new # in the distribution list. did antman get one? that's what you get for changing phone #'s. Also, you're too cool to go to the Batman midnight show, unless you did it just to taunt Ames, who was at a different theater. :P

also, i do know you'd have made it a different story. very different indeed. i don't want to get into that debate, especially not on the internet, but i am a bit surprised that there was no exchange.

I was flying out when it happened, but That One Girl has been busy at the hospital with overflow lately.
