I was trying to come up with something that witty. I failed.

So, yeah, lazy.

I hade a beard for a year or so, and then I said no, I'll do it.

A few years ago, I got a straight razor, tried to use it, and there was blood. O.K., enough of that.

I got kinda tired of the beard though, and did lots of research, (Badger & Blade, The Art of Manly Manliness, etc.) Honing, and stropping etc.

I've been shaving with a straight razor for a few months now. I don't have to look good for work, 'cause I work by myself, and the sweetie doesn't say anything, so I'll shave, there will be blood, I'll let it ride for a few days, go again, etc.

The research claims that you have to do it at least 100 times before you get even marginally good at it.

I think that the research maybe correct.

However, I am continuing on.

The shave is not quite as smooth as with a modern plastic disposable razor, but there is not nearly as much blood as there used to be.

The research also claims that once you get it right, you will never get as smooth and as close a shave.

I can see that this may be so in the not too distant future.

Maybe another 40 or so shaves?

I like to do things differently.

They never fixed teh victim's Carol Brady shag haircut.

Straight razors are too extreme for me. I do the double edge thing, usually with a Merkur Heavy Duty slant. It's a bit trickier than a pivoting head cartridge, but maybe the razor companies should stop their outrageous pricing. A single thick blade holds teh edge longer, doesn't get gunked up so fast.

Canned cream is junk, a badger brush and some water and real soap or cream is the way to go.

I'm so glad this guy didn't give that garbage "never shave against the grain" advice.

had a straight razor and strop for years earned me wicked cool points in college and boot camp, then it got lost in my travels.

FYI even with the straight razor I still had to carry a travel elec. shaver in my back pack in college for the 3pm (1500) clean up.

Been using a various Norelco's on and off since I was 14, they are good if I shave every day usally what happens: Mon. use a gilette get a good base shave - Tue to Friday use electric, Sat and Sun get all scruffy.

I broke down and got one of the wet/dry shavers, I found that shaving creme applied with brush + norelco = very good shave.

I love these guys and once get out of NY will prolly go for their products.

Oh, it actually is about shaving, neat-o. I shave once a week, Sunday evening. That is unless the wife wants something that requires me to have a smooth face. I am too Dutch to grow a lot of facial hair, but I can throw on a wicked Amish/donegal beard in a few weeks without even trimming my cheeks.

What is this "shaving" thing you speak of?






Ok, maybe once a week I clean up the cheeks with a dull disposable that I've had for about a year and half...
