New guy 'Sniffed Out', fesses up to being new.

DerGolgo noticed I was new, so I guess I better get around to introducing myself before someone decides to make some shit up. A while back, Mea, knowing how much I like to ride and hearing of my proclivity to want to ride, think about riding, or talk about riding on a frequent basis sent me over here. (DerGolgo, it's pronounced Olaf Der Stout. Bonus points if you can name the origin of it.)
I grew up around dirt bikes, and lived on one of the longer trails in Michigan before The Man decided trails were only for snowmobiles and drunk college kids two tracking. When I got back from wandering the Far East, I bought my first honest to god road capable bike, a CBR400f which someone was kind enough to import from japan before deciding they didn't want to ride and put her out front with a $500 price tag. I loved that bike. I put a pile of miles on her and she was good until she stopped. I got hitched, unhitched, moved to DC and rode the tin can metro for a while and finally wound up with a job where i had a 40 mile commute. Two years back, I bought a Sportster 883 and put 20k miles on it in a year before the girlfriend took it out and turned it into an insurance check while I was out of town. While I had the sporty, I discovered I liked long ass rides and ran an Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 twice over thanksgiving weekend. I opted to go back to the HD and got a sofa.. er.. Road King (You know, minus the entertainment center...) and have been putting miles on that. I would get a sport bike, but I have enough creaks and and am fat enough I would be uncomfortable and look silly on a modern sport bike. (Though I lust after the old SuperHawk Daytona and Speed Triple mighty hard.)
I get a little weird if I don't ride for too long. I think there might be folks around here that have the same issues.
If you have questions ask, if you are being too nosy, I'll let you know.

Welcome!!
You get weird when you don't ride? Back in the day, when things weren't quite as quiet as they are now, you could tell what season it was by the amount of blood gushing out of this place, so I suspect you'll fit right in.
As regards Olaf...it's evidently Germanic, the Olaf and the Der point at that. Olaf suggest Scandinavian even. But I only ever encountered Stout in the English. I know it means big, "sturdy" or the like, and it somehow rang in connection to Olaf, but I couldn't place it.
So I admit, I cheated, I looked it up. King Olaf II of Norway, aka "Olaf the fat" or "Olaf the stout". Also the patron saint of Norway. Your lot from up there?

Too much effort and not enough Geek, which is Ok. It's an old video game reference, which was inspired by your find!
Yeah we are from up thataway, but I'm a damned mutt.

Greetings and salutations!
Please provide photographic evidence of said sofa. Some may refer to it as a douche canoe. Don't take it personally, I'm a cunt just for having a Buell and all KZ riders are assholes. The DC area cell is full of good folks, someone will be by shortly to collect a pinkie.

I want to everntually ditch the whitewalls, the oversized fender and as much of the chrome as I can. I just want it out from under the bank note before I go gonzo on it.

(I wont take it personally, I think the ones with the f-16 instrument cluster and stereo are fucking silly. I ride to hear the road and the bike, even when it sounds like a tractor.) Found the other pic- (What I am too busy riding to take pictures of the damn bike!)

Our new friend is apparently a Viking gone astray.
Don't doubt the geekiness amongst these terrorizers, most are just a touch long in the tooth for that reference.

Yeah, I'm in NOVA. I would have killed someone by now if I had to commute to Columbia from any farther than Fairfax. That said, I get a lot of low speed, tight maneuvering practice. I also am starting to think lane splitting is a good thing if we can get the land yachts to behave properly.

Careful with that -- I had some of VA's finest yank my license for that sort of behavior a few years back. All settled now, but... basically, riding around here sucks.
You're in Fairfax? Cool. I'm up in Reston, and there are a few DC-local types around. We ought to get together a DC-NoVA shindig early this spring before Mishka (Mrs. Jaeger) pops in May with Thing 2.

Oh the Buffalo is too big for lane splitting and the piss poor driving means there's too much debris on the shoulder to risk it. Mostly it's mastering staying moving as much as possible and making those damned lane changes when pricks in luxury living rooms don't want to let anyone do anything.
Yeah that would be cool to meet up at some point. I expect yesterday's weather was a bit much for some folks, (I had a good ride, but it was time to get out...) but when it breaks a bit, certainly!

Ah yes, sunny Reston, what fond memories.
Anywho, welcome to the Board. I have nothing witty to add.

Welcome sir, always good to see another East Sider here.
With your proximity to the portal, your attendance at DOOM is an absolute must.
If for no other reason than allowing us to abuse your liver.
You originate from the mitten?

Welcome to the asylum ... we're all a bit off here, especially during the cold, dark, dreary winters and can easily relate to going a bit more mad when not able to go for a ride in awhile. I usually ride during the winter months, but coordinating the weather with free time and Podling-minding means I get out very rarely lately.
@Jaeger ... congrats! you need an official announcement thread about your upcoming family addition!

Speaking of new guys, you've been away so long you might just qualify for a re-birth.
Good to see ya still alive and kicking.
We need to get together for brunch again soon.
