all kidding aside, the actions of the Police in this matter are quite frightening. The chilling effect created by arresting a lawyer in the courthouse in front of her client are more reaching and telling of a Police state than I believe most people realize. Imagine you're awaiting your day in court and your defender is arrested in the halls of justice right in front of you. This cock up speaks very loudly of the hubris of a large segment of the enforcement community. If they wanted his picture, it's in the mug book (he's at the courthouse facing charges, which means he was already booked - printed- and photographed). Furthermore, there are videos of him entering the courthouse (assuming those cameras I see everyday actually work). No, this action was to send a message. A very very frightening message.

No shit. If the accusation stands and it goes to court, the judge better goddamn well throw it out on its ear and blast the cop(s).
The cops complained because she was interfering -- IT'S HER JOB TO INTERFERE. She's the fucking defense attorney. Her job was/is to rain on their parade.
I shudder to think what's happening (happened) to the law-enforcement community in this country. There's always been a divide between civilians and the po-po, but the current situation is growing increasingly intolerable.
The cops responsible for this particular incident should really be flogged, or at the very least fired. To effectively assault a defense attorney for doing her job
in the fucking courthouse is inexcusable and, as you say, demonstrates an incredible amount of hubris.
I should also hope the CA bar association gets involved. If they don't they're fools. If the cops can get away with it once that sets a precedent...

Like I said, this was a link WAFS shared on FB and below there was a lengthy discussion about legality of this arrest, main point is that a public defender was representing this guy in another case and was interfering with investigation in the case she has not involvement with...
WAFS should pop in and 'splain it, I'm just reciting what I may or may not remember correctly after skimming over in a hurry
seems he went from being very active here to MIA, should poke him on FB?
