Flying without DIA?

We have an engineer looking at moving to Denver to cover the western US. What are the flight options without using DIA?
I thought when Stapleton closed down that the regional airports picked up a lot of direct flights, but my memory ain't what she used to be.
Anyone able to comment?

If it's on a major carrier, you can't. DIA has set it up so that you must hub from that airport through any major air carrier. This little issue has caused a few Springs residents I know to be really pissed. When I checked 2 years ago, this was still the case, but only a few carriers will do the milk run through the Springs. Sad too, because it's a really nice airport.

Thanks for the info. He can work out of any western city, from the coast in, but it has to have major air access.
He's debating between Phoenix and Denver for the most part, but the idea of 30 miles one-way to DIA on a frequent basis is giving him reservations.
I thought some of the regional airports, like the one in JeffCo, gave direct flights to Cali and such. Now I'm thinking it was Grand Junction I was flying out of.
Easy mistake... both are a little west of Denver, eh? One a little more little than the other.
