hiya,
i know many of you are quite knowledgeable, especially in obscure topics so here's hopin' one of you can help me:
I am looking for a President (US or not, doesn't matter) who died a rather traumatic or gruesome death. Please no JFK or Lincoln. i'd also prefer someone recent (past 100 years or so) although if there is something particular interesting, I'd ignore the time frame...

Patrice Lumumba, first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Kongo, was executed (neck shot I think it was).

Nikolai Ceaucescu, Romanian Dictator, got the firing squad on fucking LIVE TELEVISION!

William Henry Harrison, 9th US President, didn't wear a coat or hat during the inaugural ceremonies. Caught Pneumonia and died a month later.

Sani Abacha, President of Nigeria, died during an orgy with three Indian prostitutes in 1998. Rumor has it that he got Pfizer to supply him with Viagra even before it hit the shelves, and his heart didn't stand up as did his dick.

Josef Stalin died of cerebral hemorrhage in 1953 - his death was, apparently, quite painful while his party comrades arranged for doctors, who could have saved his life, not to intervene (not even an aspirin).

Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana's plane crashed while he was on the way home from UN led peace talks with the Tutsi led RPF rebels. The Hutu government claimed the plane was shot down by the RPF, the 1994 massacres on Tutsi and moderate Hutus followed (between 500.000 and 1.000.000 killed, many hacked to death with machetes, sticks or whatever was handy). As it happens, the flight data recorder was recovered from the wreck and could have proven the RPF had nothing to do with the crash - but the UN managed to conveniently loose the black box in a file cabinet and forget about it. Which fits nicely with the UN's and the West's inaction during the massacres.

Damnit! You beat me to Harrison! This is one of my personal favorites.

Hitler's exit was also quite spectacular. Not the death as such but the odyssee his remains were sent on, only to disappear on some Russian garbage dump many years later. Newest scientific findings and some testimonials are saying so but actually still nobody knows what really happened.

Harold Holt, Australian PM went for a swim in one of our prized beaches and never came back.

Harold Holt disappeared while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea, Victoria on 17 December, 1967. His body was never recovered. Without determining the cause of Holt's death, a joint report by Commonwealth and Victoria Police, submitted in January 1968, concluded that, '… there has been no indication that the disappearance of the late Mr Holt was anything other than accidental'. The report (see copy on file A1209, 1968/8063) found that his last movements followed a routine domestic pattern, his demeanour had been normal and despite his knowledge of the beach, the turbulent conditions (high winds, rough seas and rip tides) overcame him. The explanations put forward for a failure to find the body included an attack by marine life, the body being carried out to sea by tides or becoming wedged in rock crevices.

Whatcha wanna bet he is really croacked twenty or thirty years later, sitting in an inner tube floating in the muddy pond behind some ramshackle farmhouse in the middle of nowhere (plenty of that in OZ, no offense intended), knocking back a cold one and chuckling his ass off?
I mean, seriously, what better way to fake your death? Follow your everyday routine but just not come back from the stormy, shark infested beach you go swimming every day?
