Kids misbehave. They're too fat. They cuss too much. They get all moody and violent after playing Doom or watching movies. Little hellion 9 year old girls stab their best friends over a fuckin ball, and neighbors say the little psycho has always been a handful.
Yet never - not ONCE - have parents of these kids claimed ANY responsibility for the improper upbringing of their children! These parents get up on some self-appointed soapbox and preach to the media and anyone else who will listen, about how the entire world and everyone in it are responsible for the horrible atrocities their children have committed. I have yet to hear a parent get up, perhaps ashamed, and say "you know what, I fucked up. This is my son or daughter who messed up, and they did it all because I didn't take enough time to show them how to be a proper human being".
Today, I heard of some parent who sued a school. Now, with all of the child molestation and other crap going on, this might seem in line - perhaps extreme, but as litigious as our society has become, in line. Until you hear about why. Apparently, their 6th grade daughter was playing a game with a friend where you shove as many marshmallows in your mouth as you can while still being able to speak some phrase like "chubby bunny" or something along those lines. Well, the girl choked on a marshmallow, and died at the hospital 3 hours later. The parent sued, to paraphrase their words "not for the money, but to send a message that children should not ever be allowed to play dangerous games". HELLO ASSWAD! It was a FREAK accident, and short of you telling your kid not to shove so much in their mouth at once that they choke, nothing would have prevented it. If they had choked on a peanut at a ballgame would you be suing the sports teams?
Kids are being shielded too much. I also think they're being exposed to way more than they should at too early of an age, but the "protection" some parents seek is just stupid. I guess they don't even have the Cookie Monster on Sesame Street anymore, because apparently his fuzzy blue ass is responsible for kids getting fat on junk food! He eats vegetables now. So what, kids are being taunted with images of the Brocolli Monster now? Yeah, THAT will make them listen. Perhaps if parents would get off their own fat, lazy asses and do some physical activities with thier kids once in a while, the presence of cookies in a home would not be a legally prosecutable offense.
Maybe if parents taught their kids that ya can't eat junk food all the time, the little ones would know how to balance a diet. Kids never learn other lessons either. When I grew up, you could drink from a garden hose. You rode a bike and sometimes fell down - and you skinned the shit out of your knee and it hurt, but you learned something from it. All kids learn these days is that you have to be afraid of anything and everything, and if by some chance you still get hurt, you can always make someone else pay for your mistakes.
Let's not forget violence in children... Every time someone's kid goes psycho, it's an instant blame on society. Television, video games, the guy down the street ... it's never on the parent's shoulders. Well, maybe if they'd BEEN a parent, instead of letting a TV tube and some Internet chat rooms raise their kids, these problems would decline.
Perhaps I am biased. I mean, shit - I played Doom as an adolescent. My parents fucking flipped the first time they saw me hacking apart a demon with a chainsaw on a computer. I also explained it was just a game, and I wasn't going to go all killer on the neighbors or anything. I ate cookies and all sorts of other crap growing up. But my mother also took the time to make balanced meals for me, instead of leaving me to grow up on frozen pizza and pepsi. I was taught things like not to be a violent asshole. I was even able to grow up without killing anyone or confusing movies with reality.
So what's the point of all this? Basically I am sick and tired of parents suing anything with money every time their child - the fucking result of their parenting skills - goes off and does something bad. I think for a parent to sue, it needs to meet certain criteria, like:
1. Is this frivolous?
2. Has the child done something that 99% of the rest of society has learned not to do, ergo implying the failure of said parents?
3. Is it really anyone's fault, or does it fall under the "bad shit happens sometimes" category (i.e. girl choking on marshmallow)?
My guess is, if we applied these simple questions to any parental lawsuit in the future, most of the overgrown ingrates who somehow successfully produced offspring would be thrown out of court on their fat, uneducated, lazy, TV-laden asses. Perhaps even beaten by passersby at random.
Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. I am tired of hearing about stupid people suing other people for their own stupidity or the stupidity they have caused in their kids, by raising them stupidly.
Cheers!
