Fat Kids

What kind of sissy, worthless, uneducated spawn are we raising these days? Or, let's start with what I like to call "The Wussification of America's Parents".

Kids misbehave. They're too fat. They cuss too much. They get all moody and violent after playing Doom or watching movies. Little hellion 9 year old girls stab their best friends over a fuckin ball, and neighbors say the little psycho has always been a handful.

Yet never - not ONCE - have parents of these kids claimed ANY responsibility for the improper upbringing of their children! These parents get up on some self-appointed soapbox and preach to the media and anyone else who will listen, about how the entire world and everyone in it are responsible for the horrible atrocities their children have committed. I have yet to hear a parent get up, perhaps ashamed, and say "you know what, I fucked up. This is my son or daughter who messed up, and they did it all because I didn't take enough time to show them how to be a proper human being".

Today, I heard of some parent who sued a school. Now, with all of the child molestation and other crap going on, this might seem in line - perhaps extreme, but as litigious as our society has become, in line. Until you hear about why. Apparently, their 6th grade daughter was playing a game with a friend where you shove as many marshmallows in your mouth as you can while still being able to speak some phrase like "chubby bunny" or something along those lines. Well, the girl choked on a marshmallow, and died at the hospital 3 hours later. The parent sued, to paraphrase their words "not for the money, but to send a message that children should not ever be allowed to play dangerous games". HELLO ASSWAD! It was a FREAK accident, and short of you telling your kid not to shove so much in their mouth at once that they choke, nothing would have prevented it. If they had choked on a peanut at a ballgame would you be suing the sports teams?

Kids are being shielded too much. I also think they're being exposed to way more than they should at too early of an age, but the "protection" some parents seek is just stupid. I guess they don't even have the Cookie Monster on Sesame Street anymore, because apparently his fuzzy blue ass is responsible for kids getting fat on junk food! He eats vegetables now. So what, kids are being taunted with images of the Brocolli Monster now? Yeah, THAT will make them listen. Perhaps if parents would get off their own fat, lazy asses and do some physical activities with thier kids once in a while, the presence of cookies in a home would not be a legally prosecutable offense.

Maybe if parents taught their kids that ya can't eat junk food all the time, the little ones would know how to balance a diet. Kids never learn other lessons either. When I grew up, you could drink from a garden hose. You rode a bike and sometimes fell down - and you skinned the shit out of your knee and it hurt, but you learned something from it. All kids learn these days is that you have to be afraid of anything and everything, and if by some chance you still get hurt, you can always make someone else pay for your mistakes.

Let's not forget violence in children... Every time someone's kid goes psycho, it's an instant blame on society. Television, video games, the guy down the street ... it's never on the parent's shoulders. Well, maybe if they'd BEEN a parent, instead of letting a TV tube and some Internet chat rooms raise their kids, these problems would decline.

Perhaps I am biased. I mean, shit - I played Doom as an adolescent. My parents fucking flipped the first time they saw me hacking apart a demon with a chainsaw on a computer. I also explained it was just a game, and I wasn't going to go all killer on the neighbors or anything. I ate cookies and all sorts of other crap growing up. But my mother also took the time to make balanced meals for me, instead of leaving me to grow up on frozen pizza and pepsi. I was taught things like not to be a violent asshole. I was even able to grow up without killing anyone or confusing movies with reality.

So what's the point of all this? Basically I am sick and tired of parents suing anything with money every time their child - the fucking result of their parenting skills - goes off and does something bad. I think for a parent to sue, it needs to meet certain criteria, like:
1. Is this frivolous?
2. Has the child done something that 99% of the rest of society has learned not to do, ergo implying the failure of said parents?
3. Is it really anyone's fault, or does it fall under the "bad shit happens sometimes" category (i.e. girl choking on marshmallow)?

My guess is, if we applied these simple questions to any parental lawsuit in the future, most of the overgrown ingrates who somehow successfully produced offspring would be thrown out of court on their fat, uneducated, lazy, TV-laden asses. Perhaps even beaten by passersby at random.

Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. I am tired of hearing about stupid people suing other people for their own stupidity or the stupidity they have caused in their kids, by raising them stupidly.

Cheers!

I can absolutely agree with you.
The situation is only marginally different this side of the pond.

I had to take my daughter to see two specialists because she was not fat! She is perfectly healthy but since she was not a tubby little baby "the charts" said I had to get her all poked and prodded. What did they find? Well we already knew she was a healthy little girl so we learned nothing except specialists are expensive.
This is how far it has gone in the system, the growth charts are so up to date that they expect fat kids and parents are doing something wrong if their kids arent fat. I guess the charts are based on the previous few years records. I will have to ask my doc what the oldest chart he can find says.

I hear you DBD, you've got to have a license to drive a vehicle, but not to procreate. What's the bigger responsibility?

Funny thing that, the last week I had some strange experiences concerning that matter:
1.: A few kids were fighting to get into the elevator at the subway station, three of them with their bikes. I told them "How about you get out and leave the elevator to that old lady there.", there actually was an old lady slowly inching towards the elevator.
The lot of them got out and was gone without a word.
2.: If the first one wasn't strange enough, a day later I joined the queue at a kiosk when a little brat that was standing there in front of me just looks at me, asks in an apologetic tone wether I was there first and, even though I said "No, I wasn't, you were." then proceeds to make motions in the same apologetic manner and buggers off, standing a few feet away only to rejoin the queue after somebody had queued up behind me.

I guess a slightly intimidating manner is all these kids need to be brought in line. That and a beard. Shaving is the downfall of any civilisation.

Ive been waging a one man punnisher style social war on mallrat eminem fans for over 2 years now.

They stand in a group in the food court or near Sanity or Electrinics Boutique acting hard. so i walk THROUGH the group and revel in the death stares, then when i walk out i walk THROUGH them again. One got up me once for it, he was 13 and wearing a backwards upside down VISOR. I taunted him for thinking he needed a spoiler for more downforce.

As for fat kids well... Im a chubby chaser myself and a plump 18yo chick with big tits just sets me to salivating but thats fat women. I recomend showing "Supersize me" to every 4th grade class on earth. After watching it i havent been to maccas since, or when you go to macdonalds get your child a diet coke with his/her happy meal. FFS its a small step but its a step.

fat kids parents cant be totaly blamed for the kids, ever see a fat COUNTRY kid? I havent. kids in the city cant walk the streets cause they get robbed for their mobile, they cant ride their pushbikes because you get FINED for riding them on the footpath and the tarmac jungles we live in are clogged with so many self obsessed cage driving motherfuckers that I have enough trouble staying in one piece and I have a horn and an engine. You make your kids do sports and your one of those parents who try to live vicariously through their kids and run the risk of getting beaten up by another parent cause he doesnt like the way your kid plays soccer.

Myself, Im going to only give my kids wholemeal bread and educate them on health and nutrition from a young age. After watching a series Jamie Oliver did in the UK when he interviewed school children most of them couldnt tell him when he held up an onion what it was! sugar and caffine free soft drinks will be the only ones allowed in the house and chocolate will be a big OUT.

Im gonna cook with my kids too, Do something with them, i mean you could teach a monkey to grate cheese. So many parents say "i dont have time to finish work at 5 and have a meal on the table at dinnertime. BITCH MOVE DINNERTIME BACK!!! dinnertime in my house was around 8pm when my mom had a 9 to 5 so she could cook and we could eat together.

Basicly for trying to raise a smart healthy shild these days society blows, my kids are going to be taught this from a young age. "Look out for your own ass, study hard and exercise alot and when you go for a job and the guy see's the well educated musclebound guy and the porky guy who starts the interview with "yo whassup" who do you think he is going to pick."

Yeah, but ya sure get funny looks from the old folks when ya temp as a medical receptionist with one! :D

Got spend time with the kids? Find their interests.

I have two girls, I have bought one new sewing machine (a Husqvarna), and also brought another one, a heavy steel American 1970's model, and brought it back from a ten-year hibernation with nothing more than $5 bucks to buy it, two-hours time, and a bit of tinkering. ALL metal mechanical parts. Fun to work on. It won't break your leg if it falls over on you neither.

I'm learning quilting--so they're going to learn quilting in order to have a hobby (besides the damn talking lamp-TV) not to mention a creative way of expression, since they both are tending towards the arty side (versus Flo-Jo) of the realm.

I don't have cable. And never will.

Check this out. It's about a guy who carried explosives in a quarry for a living and gave his wife's quilting circle the red-ass about their lack of ouput. His work ended up in Ripleys Believe It or Not. http://www.museum.state.il.us/muslink/b ... mhist.html

Yeah, it's quilting, and I'm a guy, not your Grandma, get over it.

Actually, I heard something recently where that's a bad thing. The nutrashit sugar substitute they use creates an eventual chemical imbalance in your brain, actually causing your body to get fatter. The real trick is just to get a smaller soda, instead of the supersize 80-gallon jug-o-sugarwater. OR try drinking something useful, such as juice or WATER. Did you know that an alarmingly high rate of health problems and general discomfort can be traced directly to dehydration?

You know, you may have a point here (somewhat). I grew up in a hick town not far from here, and spent the first 14 years of my life out in BFE on a ranch of sorts. Been skinny my whole life, but I was raised on vegetables and lean meat and food that isn't just candy, pop, and pizza. I've also seen some fat ass country kids, but they are the minority by far.

I gotta say the responses to this thread have me laughing my ass off!

I do not think that I am that old at the ripe age of 33, but what pisses me off is the zero tolerance policies that we use against our kids.

Suspended for bringing a butter knife to school in your lunch box? One that mom packed? Stupid.

In my youth, which I grant you was in the country, with acres to get in trouble on, we had fun.

We had BB gun wars.
We got weapons as presents.
We built bombs of gunpowder.
We ran all over the place.
We biked all over the place.
We threw firecrackers at eachother.
We got in fist fights.

but..
We knew we were responsible for our actions.
We knew that when we really went out of our way looking for trouble that it was wrong, and if caught the belt was in our future.
We knew respect for our elders.
We knew our manners.

We were far too busy to get fat, we we far to curious and mischevious to not get hurt. We worked off our pennance and knew that when the sheriff was called we were in a shit ton of trouble.

We were just growing up. All of the farm kids turned out to be good law abiding folks.

Now kids seem to get arrested for the same dumb shit that we would get "post hole digging" punishment for.

And while the responsibility lies squarely on the parent and the child, some of the punishments for rule infractions have become frighteningly stupid.

Fuck I have lost my train of thought.
