New bike ... kinda

That's what plans are for:
Not even back home but I made my decision. Just called the mechanic and told him to stuff my project. Too many problems for me, I just wanna go ride. So I made the deal and this is going to be my next ride:
I'm too old for pimped out choppaz that only kill my spine. What I need is a nice, comfortable, unproblematic old-men-scoot. Something for comfy touring. I guess this old wing comes very close to my idea of the perfect bike.
I can't wait to ride it ... after some small modifications. You know me, I can't stand stock bikes so a little pimping must be done first.
Oooooh I'm so excited.....

Man, I really love those early ones when they are stripped of all the touring junk. I like that paint scheme too. . . downright sporty!
Congratulations!

Thanks guys, I guess we'll have a good time together, Goldie and me. No DG, it's a 1000, but I can't say if it's a K0, K1, K2 or K3. Forgot to ask the man and I don't have enough knowledge to see differences. It's supposed to have a fuel gauge on the "tank" lid (stolen, we're waiting for a spare part) and its got spoke wheels. I guess Honda never made them in that combination. The previous owner has probably pimped it a little before he passed. I will check it out again on Tuesday.
PS: What've I done wrong with the pic???

The first 3 years of the U.S. production had spokes and a fuel gauge in the center of the "tank" lid. I always thought these were such cool bikes in that they were SO big and just glided quietly down the road. Very powerfull, yet unpretentious. You've found a nice (now rare) bike in great shape, Badi.
You've probably already found this site, but:
http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/index1.htm
has some great slide shows and pics of early wings that people have modified. Congrats, on your new ride!

Beware of the spokes, man.
I remember once in mechanics class our instructor told us about the legal battles that ensued when a few people came of their early, spoked wheel Goldwings and it was traced to resonance from the rear wheel spokes shaking the bike off the road.
They supposedly changed that....

Thanks for the link, Photo. I've probably skipped it before cause I thought it's primarily about the 1500 and not the old one. I'm gonna have a look, just bookmarked it. And already I've learned something: I thought the fuel gauge only came with later models and that those models were equipped with com-star rims instead of spokes. Wrong! By tuesday or wednesday I can ask the mechanic what year it is.
And yes, I too think that it's a good bike. The previous owner really gave it some tlc, the mechanic also told me that he had just finished a major engine overhaul. Sadly the owner passed away before the bike was finished and his widow, in her need to get rid of it, gave me a good deal. Good enough for me to part from my nearly finished XS project.
DG, you're creeping me out! Now I'm afraid! Stop that, you're killing me.
