If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

Sorry to bother,
please can anyone tell me to whom of you gentlemen this above quote belongs to? Also, who said or wrote it in the first place?
I'd like to use it for a short story but first wanted to check if it's okay to steal it.
Thx for your help and assistance.

That's too funny, Wycked
I just googled for it and the only link that made some sense brought me directly to the UTMC.
So I assume you don't mind me borrowing it, right? See, I want to use it as a kinda forword for a short story, I'm currently working on. My protagonist happens to have a night ride and when he stops for a break he's starring at the stars reflecting his life. That's when I remembered your quote.
And, before you ask, I'd like to send you the story but, sorry, it's written in a special code, called german, that only a handfulof people can read and understand. And I'm sadly lacking the skills to translate it into english and still make sense.
Okay guys, thx very much, I guess I have to do some research now ...

I have a buddy that I can send it to, he is taking German in school and needs stuff to translate so toss me a copy anyways, sides I am resourceful enough, I could either copy it into babelfish, or take it down to Germantown and get it translated there.badi wrote:And, before you ask, I'd like to send you the story but, sorry, it's written in a special code, called german, that only a handfulof people can read and understand. I too used it as an opening line for a shortstory in a Vampire/Werewolf fanfic community for one of my characters.

Shoot me a copy. My German is a bit rusty, but I could have a go at it.

Woah! Not so fast, guys. The story is still a very rough draft changing from day to day. And it's not even sure if we can use it or not. See, I'm part of a circle of writers and we're in the process of creating an anthology with short dark fantasy/horror stories. So, it's not about motocycles in the first place.
The twist in our project is that all our stories are parts of a bigger plot that will wrap up the whole shebang and to which everyone of us will contribute some bits.
Now there's another twist: in the framing plot every member of our circle will appear as his chosen alter ego, also a member of a writers group. Pretty cool, huh? Only that our real world group goes by the name of "Schwarze Tinte" (black ink) and the virtual one is "scriptum mortis".
Of course I decided to make my alter ego a biker too, a glorified version of yours truly. Charles Gibson, a stereotypical science fiction writer from Brighton (have I mentioned that in the story we're all limeys?). He likes what I like and is a lot like me but looks more like Kurt Cobain would've looked at the age of 42. Really, the piece I'm working on right now is not my real contribution to the anthology storywise but only a small part of the surrounding overhead.
So, currently my alter ego is busy making his way on his old shovelhead from Brighton to a forest in Cornwall, where the annual gathering of the group takes place. Before you ask, no, he's not riding a brit bike! I'm not too fond of them so Charles Gibson isn't either. And since our subject is horror and stuff, my Chuck character is riding some lonely country roads at night and, of course, experiences some strange encounters.
On a bike, at night, geddit???
Maybe later, should the final version be accepted by me fellows and find its way into the manuscript, I can post some extracts. We've also set up a website but that's strictly for internal use right now. Later ...

while i didn't really find out who did write it (i'm guessing) but i did find what appears to be the rest of it.

heh, i also found a post by a "wyckedflesh" on a cache of another forum. now i wonder who that is...On a bike, at night, the universe constricts to a madman hugging the head of a comet rushing tail first through halls of blackness. Tense eyes seek deer in deliberate enhancement of peripheral vision. Vegetation flashes by, momentarily given color, and exiting in dim red, the tail lights giving the illusion of red shift, a swift cerebral rush. Back in the Newtonian universe, speed is balanced with paranoia, the empty road calling for acceleration, unending. Caution sets the boundaries of your comfort zone.
Full moon was rising tonight, as I finished a 130+ mile run through the finger lakes, all but the last 15 on twisty back roads. My Cyclone has got to be close to the perfect machine for possible near misses on large brown animals. Paranoia peaks as I turn the last corners, this is a Deer run area. I made it to within 400 yards of my house, then Bambi ran out, with plenty of room & time to brake, honk & laugh.
Bike is still cooling, pinging in the garage.
