If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

Film recommendation
I just saw the new film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (they guy that made "Amelie"). It's starring Audrey Tautou and Dominique Pinon (as seen in Amelie) and it's absolutely amazing.
The cinematography is fantastic.
The love story is almost heart breaking (and I usually either nod off or start screaming at the screen when seeing romantic drama, so trust me).
The portrayal of the meat-grinder of the Somme is one of the most disturbing pieces of war-related cinema I have ever seen, Full Metal Jacket has nothing on this film.
But you must try and see the version edited for Europe.
The film has a powerful atmosphere, and it wouldn't be there without the blood, the despair and the debauchery depicted.

DerGolgo, do you really think that a french movie production has any chance to be shown throughout US cinemas? Maybe in a few chosen arthouse theatres but not in the mainstream! Should the movie do well at the European BO then maybe in 10 years time they'll have their own remake for 100 times more money and 1000 times less magic.
Remember what happened to "Nikita" and "3 men and a baby"?
BTW, haven't seen it yet but I heard it's not as good as Amelie was.

Un long dimanche de fiançailles is currently playing in the art-house theatres in Denver right now. I've been hoping to go see it, but movie viewing has been sidetracked with all the chores I have piling up lately. It looks like a good one. Thanks for the review. As for the Europe-version, who knows what threats the M-P-A-A has made against this flick with the NC-17 rating?

Well, there's always DVDs...and you gotta let people know if a film is really worth watching.badi wrote:DerGolgo, do you really think that a french movie production has any chance to be shown throughout US cinemas? I wouldn't say it's better or worse than Amelie, it is just quite different. Darker. More sinister.

CAUTION! SPOILERS!goose wrote:Wow, you out of "towners" seem to think we're dismantling the Statue of Liberty and sending it back. Sure, we wont buy Citroens... but who does? And yes, we drink french wine.... when we can't find a better California wine (which is truly rare). Now, where did i put those "freedom" fries?
I don't hink US theatres won't play it because it is French.......I think US theatres won't play it unedited because of the graphic depiction of World War One Trench warfare, chemical weapons related injuries, flame-thrower related injuries, self-mutilation, copulation, adultery, whoring, masturbation, drinking, smoking and the numerous murders taking place.
Then there is Jodie Foster getting down and dirty, but that's a whole different story.

Now xtian has to step in, gathering all you yanks in the salon or the bibliotheque to explain once and for all, in true Hercule Poirot style, that freedom fries were actually not invented in France but in Belgique.goose wrote: Now, where did i put those "freedom" fries?
