Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

I have a .22 revolver that was recently appraised at about $25.

If anyone breaks in, I intend to throw it at them, as there is no ammo in the house.

If you have a good "killer scream" and decent aim when throwing, I bet that would be more effective anyway.... :D

If anybody points a .22 at me, I'll do exactly as they say. Then again, I'm not a psychopath on crack (just coffee).

I have stalked small rodents from fair distances with .22's for years and I have never seen one "bounce" off of any living thing. As for home defense nothing clears an intruders bowels like racking the slide of a pump shotgun behind them in the dark. I have only seen it done once when I was younger and a guy was sneaking around our barn, he never stopped running as far as we saw him. I use "low brass" 4's since they are less likley to go through walls and hurt someone special. Then there are my fifteen 9mm friends and my wife's fifteen 9mm buddies, the Kabar, and escrima sticks throughout the house where they might be handy. Hopefully Kansas will have concealed carry soon and I will be able to take my friends with me wherever I go.
But then again I'm a paranoid bastard. :) On the other hand I only have to be right once for it all to pay off.

This reminds me of a story.

I was in Germany about 10 years ago, and somehow got on the subject of guns with a group of mixed Europeans (Germans, English, Dutch). Somebody asked me, "Is it true that everyone in America has guns?"

"Actually, my family is very much against guns. We have always thought that they are dangerous, do not provide real protection to anyone, and should be banned. . . . . . .We have 6 in our house."

I have all kinds of heavy right hand(throttle hand) guns. So I bought this a while ago. Shucks, can't get the image on! It's a NAA Guardian DAO 32acp. Stays inside of 10 inches at 20 feet, shooting left handed.

When I was paranoid and doing things of a less then wholesome nature I had a FNC with a 25rnd magazine loaded under the bed, with the folding stock and a custom shortened barrel. Next to the couch was a mossberg sawed off loaded with 3" magnum Sabot Deer Slugs. Under the back of my shirt was a 10mm Glock20. That was roughly 17 years ago. I sold off all my stuff when I got news I was going to be a father, as well as cleaned up my act and went cold turkey sober. I do look into getting back into shooting again, probably along the lines of a TC Encore/Contender in a good deer round, .260 or there abouts. I was hitting 4" shot groups with my Glock at 200yards. and 3" shot groups with FNC at 300yards. Damn I miss silhouette shooting...I honestly have no use for a gun at home as defense. I will stick with my 6 D cell maglight thank you very much.

I shoot this S&W .357 revolver in a tactical shooting club, and it's probably my favorite. No mags to fumble with, no safeties to forget about...point it at what you want to shoot and pull the trigger. If you can't hit what you're aimiing at with six rounds, well, maybe you should think about the strap on...

Was...as I noted that was 17 years ago, now I will be lucky to hit a Buffalo target at 200 yards with one shot. My roomy kept trying to get me to compete but I would get the shakes, if there wasn't anything on the line and it was all in fun I was all good.

With all this talk about groups, lets face it, if I hit you 8 times with a loose group, your going down. Shooting tight groups is great, but if were talking about shooting to save life and limb, hitting is all that counts. I'm not saying this because I'm a bad shot, give me a bone stock M16A2 and I will hit a man sized taget at 500m 8 out of 10 shots on a off day, that ain't to shabby in my book. This is just the two cents from the guy that uses a kabar for home protection (but just think what you would think if a guy with a big fucking knife wearing his boxers and combat boots came rushing at you).

There are no guns in my house (something about kids) but in just about every room there is some sort of weapon. Everything from swords and knives to just bludgeoning weapons. I figure if someone's in my house I'd be lucky not to shoot myself in the foot in the heat of the moment, but I've yet to cold-cock myself with a baseball bat.

Hand painted Louisville Slugger, red with little flowers all over it, a present from a friend.

Always figured that as a good choice, but it is a little hard to conceal the old Slugger under a coat or shirt, so....

I was looking in a shop at a .357 revolver with a fairly short barrel, and I asked the guy about accuracy (I wanted something relatively small for personal protection, but knew that it would hopefully be used on targets only):

"...it's plenty accurate at 20 feet."

"and farther than that?"

"Farther than that and you should run!" (looking at me like I was planning a drive-by)
