Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Tornado vs. Train

Post by Double R » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:33 pm

Jesus titty fucking christ, that maintainance of way rig was haulin ass!
My guess, the train hit a rock slide in the cut where the crane missile came from, wrecked into the heap the rescue crews where running to, and the unknowing operator blazing for the early quit, with his ipod cranking out motorhead (A) didnt hear the dispatcher warning of the wreck( or all the chatter between the train and dispatch, hence the rescue crews on scene). (B) the rescue was called on cell phones and the crew was dead or something , and no one notified the railroad,!!?, and he was in the clear till, Hmmm.. wonder what all those people are running to? wait.. Oh shit OH SHHIITT!! (C) It was dark teritory(no signal system, although the train completely left the right of way and maybe the rail didnt break) and it is in the middle of no fucking where with shit reception, and no one notified the railroad. (D) Dude (or Dudes) was wasted of his ass, and he had'er wide fuckin open with the govenor wired up, or ripped off with a hammer and vise grips and tosed in the ditch (ahhh the good old days).
For certain that is the fastest M of W machine Ive ever seen. Usualy you wait half a day for M of W to clear the main. And the track was fucked cause that thing partialy derailed before it passed the camera, and if dude was'nt wasted he shit his pants.
And Im telling you now, most people are totaly clueless about railroads, but this is no surprise, but the police and rescue personel are also FUCKING CLUELESS!
Ive seen to much of this shit because of bad communication, and why were they clapping after this? Would they have cheered like a world cup goal if another train came and wadded up into a flaming pile of carnage? WTF??

Maybe they were clapping because a) they managed to get everyone out of the way before the thing came through, or b) it was sarcasm..."Yeah, well done dude, we don't have enough to do right now, do we...".

Also, they knew it was coming so someone must have told them. Perhaps the thing had a broken radio (or a broken driver's brain) and the driver didn't know about the crash, but the dispatcher was able to warn the rescue workers?
If there were absolutely anything to be afraid of, don't you think I would have worn pants?

I said I have a big stick.

Broken radio? Brroken brain? Hmmmmm... I think blazing down the road with an ipod at full volume playing speed metal, and not giving a fuck, because he has just spent the 46th 12 hour day in a row gandy dancing, with no time off, and didn't hear the radio.

I'll go for the first part of my guess (C), or all of (D). If they knew it was coming, why were people on the track with there backs to the on coming juggernaut? looks like a lot of the people were on the right of way seconds before it showed up, unless folks there have huge balls and this was no big thing(witch I have respect for that).

Thing is, here there are procedures for when a radio breaks, and going flat out down the line is rarely one of them. Now where this happened maybe they don't care.
But if it was signal controlled line and the rail, no matter if it was bent out of gauge, was able to pass comm voltage so the system thought the train vanished when it went off, then the crew not hearing the radio ran on clear signal indication. If it was CTC controlled line, then the dispatchers may be at fault for not noticing the signal reset in the control center, and setting that portion to red after failure to reach the crew by radio or phone. Or something like this.

No matter what, I see many mistakes in this scene, many preventable mistakes.
Hell of a thing though, that M of W Whatever rocket, hits the ties, passes the camera, you can hear it grinding along and it disapears into the dust then WHAMCRUNCH! For a millisecond you think the worst, but then it emerges out the other side still upright and hanging half on the rails, obviously it side swiped the train as it passed, you can see fuel or water spewing out of the side as the guy in the white shirt goes up to check on who was in the cab. I would love to hear what caused it all.
Sooo I work on trains and other stuff...Mmm How do you post these videos and links to this site?? I just got my first mac and Im having some trouble figuring things out. Anyone??

It ain't a mac thing. If you want to paste a youtube vid, at the end of the vid on the youtube site, you'll see a URL and Embed. Copy the embed, and paste it in the message box here, it'll look something like this you paste it:

Tornado vs Train

Post by Double R » Fri Aug 14, 2009 5:29 pm

I received some info on the Croatia wreck.
Apparently they were spraying some fire retardant chemical on the tracks to keep the ties from burning, from some kind of work to be performed on the right of way, any how they were not to spray it on the rails and Ooops! Sprayed it on for several miles, and it rendered the brakes useless like a super lubricant, and it is on a big down hill grade.
The commuter train lost control and wrecked, causing 9 deaths.
The M of W rig was to help clean up the mess and hit the chemical and off it went. The crew jumped off and radioed the rescuers at the train scene, and the machine just built up momentum down hill explaining the speed on impact.
So the rescuers running down the rails with their backs to the machine did have balls of steel (or they are dumb as hell).
Human error strikes again.
Press on regardless...

Holy shit!
It was the M of W rig that sprayed the stuff then backed down on to it losing control! that must be what was leaking out of it after the crash.
Fools.
