Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
If you set up a fictional universe then you can argue that certain things are, or are not, logical and consistent within that universe. Of course the fact you might be able to show something is indeed logical and consistent in a fictional world says nothing about reality.

I just took a closer look at the pictures in the auction. It really does seem to be a domestic version of a viet nam scooter. Totally not worth the $$$$$$$$$

Beautiful red livery, with a dash of diamond plate to cover the rust? I mirror TV in the Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...... :D

Were it sand colored, and the chassis in better fettle? You would still be better off with a CJ. Or a Toyo LC.

Well, the diamondplate is on the bodywork, which is an aluminum alloy called birmabright, so wouldn't rust. But the diamondplate will trap water underneath. The worst rust on series rovers are in the bulkhead, and in the chassis. However there is frequently a galvanic corrosion where the birmabright door skins meet the steel door frame. I know it says the rear xmember has been replaced, which is usually the first part of the frame to go. It's usually a stopgap repair. I've had to do about a dozen rear crossmembers.

+1. Those fuckers rust from cathodic corrosion as noted, the steel chassis loves to rot as well and the 4 banger gas engine is anemic as hell and hard to improve as a bonus. Diamond plate covers a multitude of expensive and hard to fix sins, the electrics were questionable even when new and you're not getting any parts locally.

Unless you want to spend as much time fixing it as driving it, I'd take a pass.
