Either way, it passed with an overwhelming majority, and I'm damn glad it did.
It's obvious to me that KBR/Halliburton's policy indirectly created an environment that allowed this to happen, evidenced by the several other rape cases they squashed through arbitration.
I'm glad my tax dollars are no longer supporting that BS.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. It will work eventually, I don't think I had to click debauch more than three times. Someone is overzealous at our hosting company, but only on the first couple of attempts.
If you have problems logging in, posting, or doing anything else, please get in touch.
You know the email (if you don't, see in the registration info below), you know where to find the Administerrerrerr on the Midget Circus.
Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.
To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.
Again, if you have any problems: get in touch.

First fix:
Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.
Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.
PLEASE NOTIFY THE ADMINISTERRERRERR ABOUT ANY PROBLEMS!
- open the menu at the top
- hit New Posts to see what's actually new and browse the new stuff from there
- go back to the Forum Index
- open the menu at the top again
- click Mark forums read
this will zero the unread anything for you, so you can strive forth into the exciting world of the new cookie thing.

I thought it was only ok for our military and military contractors to rape and murder if it's brown people?
Really though, I think it's shameful that so many citizens of the U.S. who put their lives in harms way to prevent injustice in the world are so often anywhere near the same cesspool of corporate lunatics, government yes men and sociopathic fuckups that seem to be involved in the same work, yet often at a much safer, much more priviledged distance.
No business should have the power to prevent anyone in their employ from reporting a criminal act. No matter how large or small the crime, or how difficult the circumstances. If the outing of a crime quiet will risk national security, then we are far too late. Those who have the responsibility of keeping our country safe should be held to the exact same standards as any other citizen. Also, if any company can be shown to be responsible in any way for an injustice to a citizen, they should have to pay up. An army of lawyers or contractual fine print should never keep anyone from taking responsibility for fucking up. Ever.
To be fair, having worked for the federal government I've seen first-hand some pretty ridiculous lawsuits come up, and know that there is a lot of bullshit. Quite often, both the government and large corporations will keep a useless, and often internally destructive employee on board as they fear the cost of litigation from even a frivolous lawsuit. I can understand the government not wanting the U.S. taxpayers to foot the bill to deal with the constant flood of frivolous lawsuits from stupid and crazy people that found a shark lawyer. Even when the government or a business win against a plaintiff that had absolutely no ground to stand on, it costs a shitload of money. Having had to work with insane/stupid/lazy/arrogant/ignorant/unproductive/offensive people because the powers that be kept them on as it is cheaper than winning against them filing a BS lawsuit is fucking stupid.
All that said, I think the big problem here is that there is no way to find out if someone's claim is valid or bullshit without going through the motions, which is damn expensive. Should it be regulated to be cheaper? I'm sure Brothah Goose can live on $10 an hour eh? Not really an option.
To let unscrupulous people file claims like wildfire is way too expensive. Just the cost of proving them wrong is freakishly cost prohibitive, and hell, if they win it's even worse. To keep a bad employee on because it is cheaper than dealing with a lawsuit is not only bad for that particular person's productivity, but also for the productivity of everyone around them. It also puts the company at much higher risk for legitimate claims as when a bad apple thinks they can get away with anything, they will try.
On the other hand, corporations want money. The only reason for huge corporations is to get money, and sometimes power. Even though they are extremely active in doing good things in this world, I'm willing to bet the guys from Ben & Jerry's ice cream spend at least one day a week jerking off as they swim naked through olympic sized swimming pools of money (I know I would if I was a multi-millionare, human nature right there eh?). Some businesses are very good, very ethical and rarely would attempt to screw anyone. A lot of other businesses, through top-down management or mid-level efficiency bastards will screw anyone they can if it means a bigger bottom line. Hell, insurance companies and military contractors, for the most part, are industries that get rich only from disaster and the fear of disaster that is prevalent in the world. It's actually in the best interests of these companies to make the world more dangerous, or at least seem so.
So what is the answer? Hell if I know, I'm just a semi-literate biker who dropped out of high school to pursue a dead-end career drawing pictures with high tech digital crayons. I'll take a stab at it though. I'll take the crazy left argument and say that if we have better education, healthcare, and public programs to try and ensure our citizens are the best they possibly can be, we might be able to at least prevent some from becoming so desperate that they behave in unscrupulous ways. This goes for
-the person that thinks the world is out to get them because of their sex/race/religion/age
-the individual that think so little of those around them that they feel free to commit criminal acts
-the supervisor that overlooks the bad because of apathy caused by a irrelevant and broken system
-the employer who behaves badly either through ignorance, or being too focused on the dollar signs.
Sometimes the only way to create a better world, is to actually go at it the hard way, brick by fucking brick, and make a better world. I think all of you are right on this. On the surface it's easy to say the republicans are horrible fucking monsters that condone rape and should be taken out and put in the stocks. (I agree on this, but not exclusively for this particular situation). The reality is that this subject is at it's extremes very simple, but overall incredibly complex. It'll take a lot more than one piece of legislation to fix something that is so horribly broken from the foundation up.
