Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

I've officially gotten $24k in financial aid for school this year.
I'm on a full ride... School is free, paying my rent, and putting food on my table.

Bitchin.

EXACTLY. That's what I'm trying NOT to do right now.
It's common knowledge that when someone transfers into the UC, and switches from the semester system to the quarter system, their grades usually suffer, and I'm no different. Unfortunately there's also this little hitch where if I don't get a 3.25 GPA in the very FIRST quarter, I'm not eligible for a continuing UC scholarship next year.

Fortunately I've gotten enough grants and other scholarships to where I don't even NEED the UC scholarship that I'm eligible for THIS year. I just hope I can keep that up in case I don't make that 3.25 cut off.

Yeah... No added pressure or anything.

And as far as setting anything aside goes, it's not possible. I get about $10k for living expenses and transportation to last the entire year. That's $833 a month, plus whatever I make/save from working for Burningman in the summer.
I is BROKE!

THAT part comes in when I get my insurance settlement from my accident a year and a half ago.

Is any of that work-study, or can you get a part-time job on top of the financial aid?

None of that is work study, that's all grants and scholarships.
Right now there is NO way I can get a job. It's hard enough to hold the GPA up as is, especially being new to the much more fast paced quarter system.
Then, once I get used to it, I'll need to up my course load to stay on schedule so I can graduate before I'm no longer eligible for certain sources of funding.
It's a real peach.

Just got my money as well, and though, because it's school dependant I only get like 5,200 for the entire year, that means all my school expenses and books are paid for, with some cash money left over. I just cashed my $1,386 check, which is peanuts in reality but it feels good when my balance was sub-300 before that... I need to get into a full time goddamn school, and get on with my goddamn degree. Congrats on the full ride at Davis, maybe I'll transfer out there if I can get the same deal.... :D

That's funny.
I also find it amusing how much more money there is for people going to four year schools vs people going to two year schools.
In my 2.5 years at community college, I had to take out MASSIVE amounts of loans just for living expenses. Now that I'm at an expensive school, I pay for very little out of my own pocket.
There really ought to be more available for people in 2 years schools.

Fuck it.
Education should be free to EVERYONE.
But that's not in the plan to keep the rich powerful, and the poor ignorant and under control.
