Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

If you cannot Debauch because you get an IP blacklist error, try Debauching again time. It may work immediately, it may take a few attempts. Some unpleasant miscreant was firing incessant database queries at our server, which forced the Legal Department of our hosting company, via their Abuse subdivision, to shut us down. No I have none.
All I can do it button the hatches, and tighten up a few things. Such as time limits on how long you may take to compose a post and hit Debauch! As of 24/01/10, I've set that at 30 minutes for now.

To restrict further overloads, any unregistered users had to be locked out.
How do we know who is or isn't an unregistered user?
By forcing anyone who wants in to Log In.
Is that annoying?
Yes. But there's only so much the Administerrerrerr can do to keep this place running.

Shudder to imagine: because if she made it through the Republican nomination process, and actually ended up being the Republican nominee going up against Obama, I would be less confident than you that she would be responsible for the biggest Republican defeat in history -- because people are STUPID!

I have a theory that McCain was saddled with this idiot because the Bush white house couldn't stand him and the Republican leadership (Cheney) picked her as a sort-of-believeable candidate (remember, he picked himself, after all) and let the chips fall where they may.
It was sort of like "Well, we'll let him run but we're going to really screw him by giving him Palin."

Idiocracy

The other day I read the entirety of Ronald Reagan's famous "Shining city on a hill" speech. It was brilliant. When I was finished, I sat there thinking that if he gave that speech today, a majority of his listeners would react negatively as they would be unable to understand all but the most simple of concepts he was presenting. It was so well written, with such a depth of historical knowledge, context and significance in how it seemlessly went from history lesson to present and future policy mantra. It also upheld my personal belief that the US must take the high road in adhering to the ideal of the Constitutional "Rule of Law" even when dealing with our enemies, an idea that seems easily abandoned these days in favor of an ignorant mob mentality when presented with HARD choices.

Today, that depth would have him labled as elitist, eggheaded and professorial.

I guess I'm lucky that I don't know one (ok, maybe one - or two) people that would have been included in that video.

How can Mike Judge always be so right? If you haven't seen IDIOCRACY I highly recommend it.

Funny how they negatively throw around "socialism" and then praise Palin for nothing, even though she was one of the architects of one of the most successful socialist (she would probably call it "populist") programs ever in the United States - The redistribution of privately held oil profits to the citizens of Alaska.
