Because the board got shutdown again because of a load of database, I had to fettle with the settings again.
As part of that, the server no longer stores what topics you have or haven't read.
IT IS STILL RECORDED!
But now, that information lives in a delicious cookie, rather than the forum database.

Upside: this should reduce the load of database.
Downside: if you use multiple devices to access the board, or you reject delicious cookies, you won't always have that information cookie. But the New Posts feature should take care of that.

Anybody like playing games on Xbox live?

I was hoping to find a few folks who want to kill zombies with me.
Or possibly attempt to beat me at CIV.

I'm currently stumbling my way through Modern Warfare 2. I spend way too much time getting my ass kicked in by strangers from faraway places online, and recently playing with Flatline occasionally. I even get grenades thrown on my face by my coworker, and own kid in Chicago. It's a blast.

Is there any threadery with Xbox tags? Mine is Yurasuka 999.

I've been debating getting back into a game console for a long time (my last was the ORIGINAL nintendo box), but haven't because of the potential for intense time suckage. After watching Brother Gumby jacked into his war game (COD, I think?), I've been severely tempted. I have a couple of questions for all you gamer gurus, here:

1) PS3, or XBOX? Why? - just the simple stuff you like about your box. I'm not trying to start a turf war.

and,

2) How much do you "live" game? Is it worth the money to keep a DSL line, so you can game with others? Is playing by yourself just boring, or is it necessary to team up in a game like COD or that Zombie game that Erosvamp was talkin' about? Killing zombies with a shotgun sounds intriguing!

A feeble, enquiring mind with very few dollars want to know. I may be unemployed soon, so I'm looking for an inexpensive way to pass time between job hunting sessions, if necessary. Of course, I could spend it reading, or learning a new career, but...you know.

I'll put in a vote for the xbox, we've got that and a Wii. Mostly it comes down to available software, there's more of it, and more titles I'm interested in, on the xbox.

As for the live stuff, in short, yes you'll want to keep your broadband for it, even if you don't see yourself doing much online gaming. You only have to pay if you want to play multiplayer online, and that's about $70/year, IIRC. For free you get access to down-loadable games, updates, demo's, and add-on's. The games you can download generally run $10-20 and run the gamut from classics like Galaga, to amazingly innovative and creative new titles. Add-on's are sometimes free, sometimes not, depending on the publisher.

If you have netflix you can view movies from your instant queue through the xbox, another feature I love.

PS3 has blu ray, if you're into that, and now that they dropped the price it's probably cheaper then some stand alone players.

My roommate is playing modern warfare 2 on his x-box as I type this, it seems pretty cool as war games go, but experience shows it's unwise for me to play games where I can't reach over and slap my opponent in real life.

About once every three to five years or so I get sucked in to a game bad. Modern Warfare 2 has me in it's grasp.

All astounding wonderments in technology and programming aside, I find it infinitely amusing that now some 14 year old in Germany can slaughter me 15-20 times in a row and I can actually hear him through the t.v. call me a fag every time.

I don't fare much better among friends either. My only recourse is to occasionally demand a pistols only match where for some reason my old 007 skills come out and I can decimate everyone.

I usually avoid gaming like the plague, but I have come to realize that the "time suck" can be wildly entertaining and not a bad thing sometimes.

As for the Xbox vs. PS3 debate: Go to the store and play with both of them. Most likely you will hate one or the other controllers. Decision made.
You can buy status, but sucking is immutable. After a certain point, upgrading only makes you suck more ostentatiously.

Over Thanksgiving Scumbag, Kam and a few others got me sucked into MW2, then I went home and started to rock it on my roommates Xbox360. I did far better when we did pistol and riot shield only matches, mostly because I still used a belt feed weapon and hand grenades... Everyone agreed that I was a shitty enough player it was actually an even match when we played like that.

ok - I pushed my idiot card to a kid at the Wurst Buy register today and he handed a new XBOX 360 to me (you're welcome, Bill Gates). Now I have Forza2, RainbowSix and some freebies that came with the box. I'm gonna look for CODMW2, but was wondering which zombie game you were referring to, erosvamp? Was it "Left 4 Dead"? Also - what is CIV? The zombie game looks intriguing. As soon as I can get an XBOX Live account set up, I will be joining you in the wormhole of time suckage. I've already killed 4 hours on PURE and Forza, alone. I'm sorta afraid to open RainbowSix...I will soon be a slave to this box. I'll post up my ID when it's hatched.

Yes, I was talking about Left for Dead. CIV is Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution. I love that game. Conquering countries in an afternoon is such a great stress release.

Nah, he knows he can beat me so why bother? We play board games when he wants a challenge. If'n anyone wants to hang with him his name on xBox Live is AMeanPuppy. I think he plays Halo Wars and Halo ODST.
