Finally, someone thought of the children.

Romeo And Juliet Too racy For Nashville?

Toronto's Classical Theatre Project presented Romeo and Juliet in the capital of Tennessee to an enthusiastic audience of 1,000 students and teachers Monday afternoon, but the performance was almost derailed Sunday night by a group of self-appointed censors who found the Bard of Avon a bit too racy for Music City, U.S.A.

This isn't an outrage thing, the show goes on, but the fact that educators want to protect us from Shakespeare is just…

If I squint with enough stupidity, the word "doomed" appears to contain female breasts.

The question is: would there be similar outrage if it wasn't Shakespeare but, I dunno, Rent or some modernist play where everyone runs around naked throwing feces?

Unless a piece of media or performance is actively advocating racism, homophobia and other forms of hate, everyone should just shut up and watch something else.

the bard was a well-received and much anticipated part of the high school drama club repertoire when i was in high school in southern california. and they had to put it on for no less than 3 nights to standing room only crowds. and lest you think they were a bunch of nerdy types, they put on horror melodramas every year too.

wtf are they teaching in school these days?

There's a book out there full of sex, death and violence. The protagonists, who are quite obviously portrayed as heroes to be emulated, commit acts of murder, genocide, disfiguring assault, sabotage and market-intervention, child abuse and, unless I'm mistaken, incest. To name just a few.

Why is no one seriously talking about censoring that piece of filth? It's not just in every school, in every library, in every bookstore, in the easy reach of children, affordable for everyone (heck, some sick bastards are handing out free copies!), it carries no content warning and even politicians are pushing it as recommended reading for children!!

Oh, wait, I forgot, the people with a hardon for censorship are the same people who are worshiping above-mentioned piece of murder-pornography like it's the word of God or something.
